I got involved with Crate V5 mods on this forum acouple of months ago. I would first like to thank everyone who helped me out. With too much time on my hands, I started doing alot of research on amp design & circuits. I desided that the best thing to do was start over. I pulled out the circuit board & choke, put in chassis mount sockets, drilled holes in the control panel, put in a real pilot light & real pots. I modified a Weber "Smokin' Joe" design to work with the original transformers & re-built the whole thing. I blew the original circuit board & a set of tubes in the process. When I got it right it was sweet. my first amp build.

nice job !!! how about some pix of your work ??? not much left of the original though, but that's probably not a bad thing ... i almost bought one when GC blew them out ... i have a V50-112 that's a little too much for the house ...

My circuitry is a little rough since I haven't attempted any elecronic projects in years. I'll post a couple of pictures over the weekend. I got a couple of project boards from Radio Shack & hit almost every electronics store in the Portland area looking for 450V capacitors. Worked on it for about 3 weeks. Made a couple of mistakes. Spent about $50 on conponents. Learned a whole bunch. My wife accused me of being bat-****** crazy.
