Just ordered a BYOC Univox Superfuzz clone

I just ordered a Univox Superfuzz ("Leeds") clone from BYOC (linky (http://www.buildyourownclone.com/leeds.html)). Since I'm also a first-time customer, I made sure to get the free "Confidence Booster" and "Signal Tester" kits, too.

This looks like a fun and challenging build. My first pedal was a GGG ProCo RAT "Rodent" clone and that one went well...until I installed the transistor backwards.

I'll be assembling the Leeds Fuzz in Hungary with my father-in-law who was an electrician before he retired. He's really psyched to help out...but I'm not sure if he'll appreciate the fuzz from the pedal through my Roland MicroCube. If it works, he'll probably think that we screwed up somewhere!

For the enclosure, I think I'll go with something that looks a lot like the original. Gray (with a custom relic job) with the plain blue logo, and maybe the word "Reissue" or "Clone" or "Klone" in some computer font below it.

Enjoy!
I was pleased as punch when mine fired up first time.
Then i started building them from scratch... that's even better.

Did you buy a PCB or make a PCB? Or did you go Old School and do point-to-point hand wiring? The Leeds Fuzz is a bit too complicated for a homebrew project, but maybe something like the ESV (Extra Special Vintage) Fuzz would be a better first scratch-built project. (Isn't this a clone of the Dallas Arbiter?)

The circuit looks pretty simple:

Yeah, unfortunately BYOC don't sell PCBs out here and doing my own isn't isn't on my list at the moment (although i do want to get into that too) so i've done a few on veroboard.

Point to point sounds and looks really cool, but in theory, is a lot harder than it sounds.

The Leeds can look a little daunting but the instructions make it pretty clear and relativley simple. It's just colour by numbers. Take your time and stay in the lines and it's pretty easy. Read up your instruction once or twice first as some components go on the bottom of the board and only after you've boxed up from memory.

Getting the Leeds built gave me the confidence to go from scratch, not that i am any kind of expert, but there are plenty of guys here that are. I am learning as i go and now i am old enough to not throw things if they don't work, so that helps too

Understanding how each component effects the circuit and following schematics properly is my next step.

Put the confidence boost and signal tester together first and i reckon you'll be right as rain.

I built the Leeds because i couldn't find or afford a real one. Now for the price of a Leeds kit, i can build at least 4, maybe 5 from scratch and i think that they sound better too.

They aint pretty but are practical and work a treat.
Here's one of the first ones i made.

That superfuzz looks REALLY interesting! Do you know if that PCB and stuff would fit into a Hammond 1590B enclosure? If it does, I think I'm ordering one too.

I just got one of those two. I had the real thing in 1968 and it was a great fuzz. the only reason I got one cause it was the cheapest one out there. I paid 25-30 bucks for it. Just got can't wait till I finish it

Just finished mine. what a great fuzz just as I rember. Even running it thru a 66 tremolux like I had in the late 60's. I borrowed the amp from the guy singing in the band back then but always liked that amp. wish I had the $25 one I had back then but traded it for something that involved a girl in a club. what a waste but thats the way the story goes. I highly recommend this and the build brought my electronic chops back.
