I get same comments every gig I use it.... the women all LOVE the guitar and wanna hold it and pose with it.... then the men ask me if I'm gay. Heh.

actually, it sounds pretty good, recently a few guitarists came up after a set and said, what kinda pickup did you put in that thing? And its just whatever came with it...

anybody know what the stock pickup in it is? Fender Atomic?

Let's see.

You get all the female attention because you're comfortable enough in your masculinity to play a
pink guitar with a cute little kitty face on it and the losers in the attention race want to think you're gay?

OK, works for me.

I'm not real thrilled with the stock pickup in mine so I've got a upgrade in the mail...

I'll post a review when I get it in.

I got mine for $100 off CL because the final setup on it was really nasty
and the poor folks that bought it for their kid hadn't a clue how to deal with it.

The neck had a major bow in it, mainly because it was strung to pitch with the trussrod nut completely loose.

Two entire turns before it did anything at all, loose....

Also, the nut to the jack fell off somewhere along the line and the jack was inside the cavity.

Anyway. All better, sorta.

It's gonna get new electronics & hardware.

New pickup that cost as much as the guitar... check.
New pullpot to coil tap the new pickup... check
Electrosocket & Switchcraft jack... from the parts bin - Gold finish doesn't match anything else - too bad... check.
Gotoh Klusons from the parts bin... check.
Neck inserts - Why Not?, it's a great neck...
Straplocks - got 'em already - Gold too, but different than the Electrosocket - Oh Well.
Earvana Nut? - maybe later - I like 'em but this one might not really need it.
Better Bridge/Saddles? - maybe later. Haven't seen a drop-in bridge replacement anywhere but there's a plethora of saddles.

Anyway, why not spend more on parts than on the original?

Who makes a nice hardtail bridge that will fit?

lol, very nice, but because it is a squier its going to have fenders import bridge on it. I dont know if your bridge, is a string thru hardtail bridge or top load so in this case. I looked up the string spacings for you.
Most Fender (usa spec or w.e you want to call it) use a 2 3/16 string spacing. I believe yours would be a 2 1/16. So it'd be hard to find a hardtail upgrade. But tell you what you could get graphtech's nut and hardtail saddle bridges. They have an import set as well! =]] hope that helps its like 35 shipped on ebay!

claudel

String thru body hardtail.

I ordered a bunch of stuff from Callaham this week, including a set of 2 1/16" spaced frou-frou stainless saddles for the Kitty...

The baseplate seems solid enough, has the holes in the right places already, and gives a nice resonant ping, so it can stay.

Thanks for the pointers, though.

I'm a bit surprised at all the positive reviews of this Guitar. My wife bought herself one. And the matching Gig bag, strap and picks. She thought she would learn to play some guitar a little bit. So I gave it a set-up, lowered the action and got it ready for her. After a few times at practicing some chords. She was disappointing to find that even this guitar made her fingers hurt. I explained to her that it would get better in time and to keep at it, But she gave up on the idea.
I got no shortage of guitars of my own to play. Two of which are squire strats. But I decided to take the Hello Kitty out on a gig once. The wife was thrilled to hear in a band setting. And the crowd certainly took notice of it. But I found the tone to be very bright and edgy. Almost to the point where I couldn't E.Q. into submission. But if you had an old muddy sounding tube amp, this could be a real match for that.
Great Marketing Idea though, on Fenders part. Someday we might be commenting on some fantastic new Female ( Or Male) guitar hero, who started their Career on a Pink Hello Kitty Squire. They're sure better made than the Cheap imports of the 60's and 70's that I had to start out on.

Claudel, never figured you for a Hello Kitty fan but a good guitar is a good guitar. :)

I don't have one, but I do own a pink Daisy Rock electric 12 string with the female symbol inlayed at the neck and I'm not afraid to take that out to a gig.

Hi! I am pleased to find this club, and I was hoping to get some advice so I can swap out the neck (to start with) on one of these HK guitars.

While it's hard to describe what kind of neck I would like - most of the current crop of Strat necks are a little too small in width and thickness - what I would like to know first off is if I am going to be able to fit another Strat neck in there with no further modifications or if I am going to have to find a luthier here to get the work done...

Thanks!

We have one at home. Well, my son has a black mini Squier Strat that is an overpainted "Hello Kitty" at the factory (bought new retail). We both think it's ridiculously cool! Some of the pink is starting to show through due to natural relic'ing and at a lighted angle you can clearly make out the letters and logo.

If I was forced to guess, I'd guess that the neck pocket on the HK is the same as other Strats and that a correctly made neck would fit properly.

I'd not put money on it, though.

It'd be easy enough to bolt one on for the experiment.

I'd guess again that if the holes in the neck & body aligned properly that it would intonate correctly and that the bridge would probably be in the right spot, but ya never know until you try.

Drop me an email or PM if you want to sell the HK neck, they're the perfect size for me and I even like the pink dots....

Yeah... the problem is, I don't have a lot of money to throw at experimenting, thus the questions! I was going to put one of my favorite necks (Korean Bullet 1, as I have two of these guitars) on the HK Strat but it's the wrong shape for the neck rout... Most of the ones on any Fender Strats from the past 10 years (at least) just don't feel right and are always too small. Tele's... well, I played a CV and a MIM recently for S&G while I was waiting at a music store, and the CV Tele was comfy but still not 'it' while the MIM wasn't 'it' at all!

I have had people tell me that I am looking for a Jeff Beck signature model neck, but those are very pricey...

I would love to find the old HK neck a good home once it's been replaced tho.
I'll keep you in mind.

Thanks!

Looking at a cheap Hello Kitty as a modding platform. How would you (manly) guys describe the neck? For reference, the CVs are a bit thin for me, and my Squier Custom II is near perfect.

Tdot
September 10th, 2010, 08:22 PM
The neck on my HK Strat may have been unusual, but it was sized more like the neck on my MIM Std.

I Love the big necks on my 50s Strat, 50s Esquire, and Baja. And I've really hated the thin/skinny necks on my Affinity Strats, and the Affinity Teles that I've tried. Oddly, my two favorite Squier necks have been the Affinity HK, and the Affinity 51, both seem larger and better quality than the other Affinity models.

After that little redhead got my HK away from me, I bought an MIM Std Strat, and I think I liked the HK better. I may HK mod this Strat, with 1-knob, 1-pup, I'd even like it better pink.

What kind of 'hardware' is that, and did you have to redrill?

I have been waiting to find the right neck to throw on mine before starting to upgrade the rest... just found a Fender Japan Vintage 62 RI Strat Neck on the 'bay, I hope it's the right neck for me, as I remember loving the 80's Squier Strat my friend had.

So, hopefully soon I can unload this HK neck to someone here, and use that $ to get the other stuff!

nice. I modded this with the aid of my 12-year old daughter who was in a band with some friends - though after she broke both her arms this summer in an accident, she seems to have lost interest. I can take a joke well enough, but that was pretty nasty. I'm not used to that kind of thinking on TDPRI.

Played a kids show this weekend. The guitarist brought a pink HK that needed setup something awful. I brought it home, put about 3/4s turn on the truss rod, dropped the action and intonated it. Much better. I considered a Tusq nut and lowering the nut slots but in the end I think it can get by as is. Does anyone know if the string spacing on these is pretty standard, or is it narrowed for smaller hands?

Of three Indonesian Squiers I've experienced, I think this one has the best neck.

That being said, I was hoping maybe someone with a hello kitty guitar could possibly trace the outline of the pick guard? With that, I think I can possibly copy the pickguard.

Just hoping an owner in this thread can help me out? ;) If so, please pm me.
