I love these guitars!

Years ago I would have never had bought a Japanese copy of a guitar, but a friend showed me his Tokai Les Paul gold top and I was amazed how good it was!
I then found out that there were other brands out there from the same period making the same quality copies and one brand kept popping up..., GRECO.

I was on good terms with a Japanese eBay seller (I'd bought a few MIJ Tele's from him in the past and a couple other guitars).
He had this '77 3 pickup Les Paul which I thought was kinda cool? We talked about it and he said if it didn't sell by the end of the auction, I could have it for $750aus shipped. It didn't sell and I got it.

I'm so impressed with how good these guitars are! The may not quite be a real Gibson, but boy are they close! For the price, you definately can't complain?
I ended up changing out the pickups on it, but I may change 'em back?
A friend of mine who owns a '79 Gibson Les Paul Custom played it the other week and was amazed at how good it was! He's now looking for a Greco himself!

So this week (yesterday) I'm looking around eBay and I find this '87 "Mint Collection" SG sitting at a great starting price with less than 24 hours to go and no one bidding on it!
"So what's wrong with it??? I can't find anything that says "bad" to me so I watch it and place a bid.
I win with no one else bidding, I'm really surprised!
Anyway, $749aus shipped to my door, should have it by the end of the week hopefully? I'm really looking forward to it!

So..., how many of you out there are using these fantastic guitars???

I don't have one yet, but I'm watching an ebay auction for an '83 SG.

Those are nice guits mate. I would really like a white SG. Yup, I'm looking to get some MIJ ones instead of a Gibson. You can get 3 even 4 MIJs for the price of a Gibson LP, right?

Yep! Those two cost me $1499aus and you'd be lucky to find a Gibson at that price and quality!

Wow Winnie, that's a beauty! The 335 Greco's certainly fetch a higher price too! Don't see many of them down our way?

I was just about to start a Greco club, then I saw you beat me to it

Some VERY nice one's posted already, although mainly of the Gibbo kind, so I guess I should show my Greco strat to break the chain

March 1979 "Super Sound" - I'm pretty sure it's the SE800 model due to being before the "Super Real" SE800's came out...

Pretty good condition for 30 years old, and I'm happy with the price I paid - alot cheaper than a MIM Fender

I'd love to get another one day! It's amazing how good they are after a couple of decades!

Nice Cap'n Kier!

I've been looking for the right Greco Tele for a while now! The Tele's and Strat's seem to be even more affordable than the Greco Gibbo models.

Your Strat is probably the cleanest example of a Greco Strat I've ever seen!

I've had it for about 5 years now. It's definitely a keeper. Probably as good or better than a Gibson. One piece mahogany neck, no serial #.

I love it - I'm still learning guitar and I'm so glad I bought it over a MIM that's double the price almost, and TBH I didn't really like the ones I tried -
I didn't even try out the Greco, I just bought it on eBay after hearing tons of good stuff about them  (And it's quite nice owning a guitar that's 10 years older than I am!)

I haven't used these sites, but I found them while searching for mine and so might be interesting to some :

Rinkya ( Japanese auction sites ) (http://www.rinkya.com/index.php)
Ishibashi (used guitars in Japan's Ishibashi ) (http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box/e/index.htm)

Ishibashi ship the used stuff worldwide I think, but Rinkya you'll have to translate everything and see if the seller will ship to your country...

I found this site aswell, where they offer to buy a guitar in Japan (auction sites or whatever), and then ship to you - sounds good, but might have to pay a premium (if you trust them that is...)

Thanks for the links!

Ishibishi is well used around the forum but the other two I've not seen before? If nothing else, I'll be using these sites for a little research.
