I know there's some Rondo Music lovers out there, so has anyone actually tried one of these unfinished bodies from them? $40 for an alder body seems like a steal, even if it's not that great.

I was wondering about these too. They're available here in the UK/Europe through the Belgian eBay seller 'dn-store': http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Guitar-SX-Telecaster-vintage-1952-styl-Alder-body-NEW_W0QQitemZ170347651322QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Gui tar_Accessories?hash=item27a982e0fa&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A1%7C66%3A4%7C39%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294 %3A200.

These look like a good start for a solid color painted body. You will have to drill the neck holes and string through holes (if you choose). Without a 12 in. drill press the string through holes could be a problem.

I bought a couple of them. The " alder" must be some kind of different asian alder. It really looks more like oak to me but that's just me, ymmv. They are pretty heavy, however not a bad deal considering what lumber costs these days. The only real drawback is a thick sealer coat of some poly finish and a bit of filler here and there.

Yep, i got one also for a build i did a few months ago. Took me two 3 hour nights to get that sealer off. If i remember correctly its a water based sealer....maybe. I used a min-wax colored stain and a wipe-on poly and this is what i ended up with...

Tried to find a pic where you can maybe see the grain.

Thanks for the info. I'm just planning on doing a solid color finish w/ rattle-can lacquers from ReRanch. Should I be good to go, or will using a lacquer over the sanding sealer cause problems?

I'm pretty sure the sanding sealer is water based so you may have to email reranch and verify their compatability.
