I think that all depends on what your looking for both in all their different forms are great amps.

The tweed seems to drip thick tones. The blackface seems more trebly and pointed to me.

The tweed is going to have much more pronounced mids and break up much earlier. The blackface is a clean machine, with pronounced high and lows and scooped mids. It is not about overdrive. But a BF Twin is not cold or spiky (I used to have a '66). It's warm and jangly and punchy and loud. And very heavy.

Howdy,

Why not a red knob "The Twin"? Great clean tones. Lots of bass, treble and less mids.

Despite the shared name, they're two completely different amps. Not better, just different.

When it comes to tweed I'd say the Deluxe is where its at. Fat and thick and overdrives nicely. Records very well. Big cleans? Country twang? Need some surf reverb? BF.

I like the Low Power Tweed Twin. It just sound good IMHO.

I also favor the LP Twin.
A thicker sound than the silver & blackface ones.
Not much lighter weight though.
It's all good.

I still would like to see a PTP hi-power tweed Twin and/or a PTP blonde Twin,with a half-power switch where the ground switch was,plus a discreetly placed FX send and return.

Schematics reading 101, even if you don't read schematics take a look.

1/2 power through the same speakers = -3db spl. "Triode/Pentode" isn't "half power".

I was told that is the difference in have the power, or should I say watts.

-3db SPL from 100 to 50 watts and 50 to 25 watts...

They sure are different amps. Both excellent. SF twins from the early 70s are my fave of the later twin. Bargains, wonderful sound. Ultimately, too loud and heavy for me. The lo power tweed twin is lighter, though not light enough, and is way louder than most 2x6L6 amps. Has the most wonderful, fat cleans, just beautiful. Much as I like the later ones, it's tweed in the lead.
