brgminicooper July 2nd, 2009, 01:45 AM I looked around and didn't see one. I do like the idea of having "clubs" for various guitar makes, though. That way, we can help each other out with routine stuff like strings, cleaning, common problems, etc.
So, I'll get started: I just bought a Seagull S6 on Monday. I like it a lot and it's my first "real" (read: solid top) acoustic guitar. I'm learning to play and the wide nut and neck are a great help to a fat-fingered hombre like me.
Anyone else want to chime in?
brgminicooper July 3rd, 2009, 10:35 AM I can't be the only one...
WallyArms July 3rd, 2009, 05:14 PM Big fan here. I have an S-6+ that is about 10 years old. I also have a Seagull Grand. Great guitars!
jgillard July 3rd, 2009, 07:48 PM I have an S6 seagull coastline series with spruce top. I don't have fat fingers but don't mind the fat neck. Sounds great. I've been adjusting the action on it to get it where I want it.
brgminicooper July 3rd, 2009, 11:38 PM Glad to see that there are a few of us around with Seagull guitars.
Jakedog July 7th, 2009, 03:32 PM Seagull S6+ CW GT QII. My favorite live guitar of all time. Had it for a little over two years now, and I'll die before I part with it.
Seagull is the best value out there for the money. I own several high-end acoustics, all costing much, much more than the Gull. They are all very nice guitars, but bang for the buck, the Seagull takes the prize. It's perfect combo of quality vs. price makes it the ultimate gigging guitar IMO.
fxdx99 July 7th, 2009, 04:33 PM A '94 Flame Maple, kind of a predecessor to their Artist line. Has a 2-piece back, ebony board/bridge, most importantly a huge and wonderful sound. Deep/full bass, tight mids, brilliant highs. Was hard to find as the sound/quality/price value is awesome and they were selling fast. They don't make this model any longer, unfortunately and their's something about it's construction that really works well. My favorite acoustic guitar.

eric_o July 12th, 2009, 02:55 PM I have a Seagull S6+, about 9 years old. I love it, the LR Baggs pickups sound amazing, I've gotten tons of complements on the sound of it at my church (and I know it's not from my playing). It's a great guitar, but it is very warm sounding which is a turn-off for some people.
Tonemaster July 12th, 2009, 03:01 PM Ditto on the Baggs,,,they rock.

ripper July 12th, 2009, 03:29 PM I've got a S6+, had it about 8 years and love it. I'm looking at adding one with electronics into the flock to go with it.
BB July 12th, 2009, 04:56 PM Here's my lovel little S-6 Folk. Not sure of the age...I helped a gal at church pick it out 3-4 years ago and it had already been sitting in the shop for 6-7 years before that.
Anyway, it's on semi-permanent loan, so I've had it in my possession for a few years. Great tone and playability. It's my around the house player and composer guitar.
jcayer July 14th, 2009, 09:52 PM S6+ Cedar, lefty ...
olefudd August 17th, 2010, 06:54 PM Things are a little slow here, so I'm joining up with my 2009 S6 Original. Great guitar. Can't believe the tone.
So how about a question here....whats your favorite strings?
kp8 August 17th, 2010, 07:15 PM I have an S6+ spruce. Awesome guitar. But I am trying to sell it at the moment since I desperately need the getus. I need to sell, but I am kind of half hoping it doesn't haha. I have a feeling I'll regret it. It has a really nice low end and I love the wide neck (though I wish it were less shallow maybe meatier more U shaped). I am used to the headstock now and it doesn't bother me at all. I just love how big this guitar sounds, not boomy, just rich. Sounds crazy great tuned to D or DADGAD.
olefudd August 17th, 2010, 07:46 PM Ya, I saw that in the classifieds. It tempted me a little but I'm saving for a parlor. I have two Dreads and want something thats easier to set on the couch and play.
I know what you mean about the headstock but it grows on you after awhile.
caliban335 August 18th, 2010, 11:00 AM This is my 2009 Seagull Maritime SWS Folk. It has a great neck and sounds great also. I love the smell of the spruce. :)

martin82 August 18th, 2010, 06:40 PM Well, I don't have one, but I did play a Seagull a couple of weeks ago at my local store. Don't know the model, but it had a cedar top and cherry back & sides, with a pup with a built in tuner. I was very impressed with this guitar, and believe it can more than hold its own with my two Taylors. Very impressive.
olefudd August 18th, 2010, 07:23 PM A lot of people get upset when they read about someone comparing a Seagull to a Martin or Taylor. They really are in the same league, just cost way less money. They may not sound the same as the high end guitars. They have there own sound and I think it's great. Does that make sense?
p90grinder August 19th, 2010, 12:04 PM I am a huge Seagull fan. Got my first S6 many years ago - had to wait 9 months, they were so behind on orders. That one went to Iraq with a buddy. Then I got a Flame Maple CW, really liked it but just a little too bright so I traded it for a S12 and a Vox amp. Currently I have a M6, the S12, a mini jumbo and a Performer. I put the mini jumbo up against several Taylors and had to get to a 314 before I found one that sounded as good. The mini was $600, the 314 was $1600 - gotta go Canadian on that price break.
olefudd August 19th, 2010, 08:09 PM My next purchase is going to be a parlor. I've been looking at the A&L Ami. I know it's not a Seagull but its still a member of the family.
Has anyone here played or own one?
Telarkaster August 21st, 2010, 11:55 AM Can't let this thread go by without posting!
MiniJumbo cutaway with QII electronics. Nice wide neck for finger picking.

Jeff R September 6th, 2010, 11:14 PM I'm in too. S6 cedar, original nut width. Love it.
Moss September 7th, 2010, 05:07 PM Got my brother's S6 Cedar, might be 15 years old, playing it as my main guitar whilst he's in Australia. It's left handed but i've restrung it :)
Don't feel so bad though seeing as how I had it fixed for him a few years back after a drugged up housemate stood on it!
will post a pic when the cameras charged
Tommy Biggs September 22nd, 2010, 01:15 PM I have a Seagull S6+ CW since 1994 (Cedar top, cherry sides and back), and sadly my bridge plate is begining to pull up a bit.
Anybody else have that happen? not sure if I'll even have it fixed, I guess it depends on cost.

I wouldn't think that would cost to much to repair. How heavy of strings do you have on it?
Wyzsard September 22nd, 2010, 07:36 PM I love the S6 cedars. Had one but sold it to fund my Gibson. I needed a beater and picked up a used Entourage Rustic. Man, the top dents easy but it sounds pretty good. Super thin finish. Nice action and has a bit narrower width at the nut I think.

Tommy Biggs September 23rd, 2010, 01:22 PM I've been using 11's for a good long time, can't go much lower than that on an acoustic!
I used 12's for the first 5-6 years. I switched from Bronze over to DR Zebra's recently. I like them so far, and they seem to sound better when I'm plugged in.
I figured that the bridge would be a pretty labor intensive repair, (meaning exensive) to unglue it and then re-glue and get clamped up right? Worth researching I am sure. there are some good shops around here, but I'd be happy to hear from anyone who has had a Bridge plate re-glued Segull or other...

This is my 2002 Seagull Anniversaire spruce, otherwise known as "the blonde".
Love the look and the sound - very different from the "typical" Seagull. "Artist"-grade top with a 3-ply flame maple body, matching headstock, binding, a gloss finish, and a Fort case... for the price of a plain-Jane S6 and case! I happened to stop by the shop the day it arrived and you better believe I snapped it up! :-)
My flock also includes a 2002 S6 - my first acoustic, now with a bone nut - and a 2004 Grand that was so much fun it was tough to put down.
It's also nice to know that the neck joint design is fairly easy to re-set if it ever becomes necessary. http://liutaiomottola.com/construction/Bolton.htm
olefudd September 26th, 2010, 11:21 PM I bet she sounds as good as she looks!!
Nice find.

Innatedc December 16th, 2010, 12:42 PM I am buying a Seagull for my son. I have a choice between a brand new "Original s6" and an 8 year old "s series S6" in great condition. What should I do?
Tommy Biggs December 16th, 2010, 01:18 PM I would buy new. My 16 year old Seagull S6 cutaway is drying out a bit, and the bridge plate pulling away a touch.
It's dry in NJ in the winter, and I leave it out, don't humidify it or anything special.
I do play it a lot, and I like the guitar. It is a good choice.
3 questions -
1. how much of a price difference,
2. can you play both of them, or have your son play both
3. what kind of player is your son?
The advantage of used, is that it's already set up the way someone likes it (provided you are buying it from a player, not somone who bought it and never played it) Plus it's cheaper.

I had the same problem with my Seagull, the bridge plate pulled away. I loved that guitar, but now it's only good for playing slide

How old was yours when that happened and had you kept it humidified? I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger on one in the next week or two but have heard about the bridge plate pulling away from more than one source so I am a little concerned about that.
Innatedc December 26th, 2010, 08:09 PM Thanks Tommy,
I ended up buying the older S6. Turns out it is a 2001 model. There seems to be more nicks than I would like on the pick guard. how hard is it to replace them?
do you think I should attempt to do it myself or bring it to someone? I live in Los Angels.
stinkey December 28th, 2010, 12:51 PM I have an Ceder top, b/s wildcherry and i think it's an very good guitar for the money.
Tommy Biggs December 29th, 2010, 08:38 AM Good call Innatedc - I imagine you'll dig the playability. let us know how you like it...
Interesting that there are so many bridge plate issues. I'll post something as I investigate having mine re-glued.
I can't say about replacing the pickguard - sorry. I imagine it depends on your wood/glue skills - the key being to get the old one off cleanly. I'd search the forums here and at the Martin site. Personally I don't mind most dings.
Progbusters December 30th, 2010, 12:04 AM I felt the stock strings on my rustic was too tight and hard on my finger tips. I just changed it with some Martin Silk and Steel strings. Not as bright and steely. It suits my fingerpicking folk style. Thicker and feels better on my fingers. Less tension I've heard too.

62 Jazzmaster December 30th, 2010, 04:03 AM Wow, where did you manage to get 50% off?
Tom Lee Music, Richmond, BC (http://www.tomleemusic.ca/main/music.cfm) had a massive Boxing Day sale last year.
We were in the store to get a few small sale items like strings & picks and while my girlfriend was looking at the sheet music, I wandered into the acoustic guitar room. I saw the Mini Jumbo on for 50% off and I nearly tore myself in two debating whether I could justify another guitar.
I finally got out and told her that we had to leave or else I'd buy it. I looked at her when we got in the car and she asked me if I really wanted it and I admitted that I'd be kicking myself for a long time if I passed on it.
She said, "Merry Christmas" and we went back into the store and she bought t for me. <3
stinkey December 31st, 2010, 04:29 AM Hold on to that girl!!!
FastMattTX January 10th, 2011, 08:27 PM '62 Jazz, that is one GORGEOUS guitar!
Your girlfriend sounds like a helluva keeper as well - congratulations and may your lucky streak continue! ;)
mfguitar January 10th, 2011, 11:19 PM I have the S6 single cutaway with the cedar top/cherry sides. Perfect gigging guitar, very well balanced and easy to play.
gc24 January 14th, 2011, 02:45 PM New to this Forum. I have a chance to buy a 1994 Seagull that the owner say's is a C6. It looks like an S6 to me. Could this be as good as the S6? It has a Cedar top, sides could be something different as they are lighter in color. He is asking $190.00 for it.
Mr. E January 14th, 2011, 03:05 PM How are necks on Seagulls? I need an acoustic 'cause I'm taking a guitar class (finally) and want to get a new guitar. I hate thin necks, which most acoustics have, and I would like a thick neck. Someone give me info especially on the newer models cause I doubt I'll get an older one.
themurph January 14th, 2011, 04:53 PM I have a 2004 S6+CW Q1 cedar top & I love it. Just something about the Seagulls. I find the wider neck is easy to play. My story is similar to Jazzmaster's. I originally left the store without it & and my wife went back in & bought for me as an early anniversary present.
Mr. E the necks are fairly thick & unless you get a slimline, wider that most. I believe 1-1/4" at the nut.
hshight February 20th, 2011, 01:24 PM I have an early 1990s S6 Mahogany, sounds better than my friends expensive Alvarez. Well, to be fair, mine has a thin finish, his looks like it was dipped in plastic! Seagull = a lot of guitar for the money
colchar March 6th, 2011, 12:49 AM I finally get to join the club as I ordered a nice new Seagull Original S6 Slim tonight! They normally sell for $355-$375+tax around here but I got mine for $299+tax. The store I shop at didn't have any in stock and even though other locations in their chain did have them in stock, the sales guy I deal with is ordering mine directly from the factory. So, although it might not arrive for a week or two, I put a deposit on it tonight and therefore consider myself a Seagull owner. Now to get the thing into my dirty little hands! As soon as it arrives I'll post some photos.
BB March 6th, 2011, 01:58 AM Here's a shot of my butt-ugly 1990 Model 6..before the S designation. Great sounding and playing guitar. The fact it was uber cheap makes it even better!
Stratavarious March 6th, 2011, 03:18 AM http://i1042.photobucket.com/albums/b430/Stratavarious/SeagullMini-Jumbo.jpg
Mini Jumbo w/ cutaway! I gave this to my son a few years ago! It's a sweet, sweet sounding guitar and its held up quite well considering what it's been through, the Tric case definitely preserves the guitar quite well. It's here to get the nut and saddle adjusted. I purchased this one during one of GC's special/specials, and I made them order a fresh one from Canada, which turned out to be a much better one than the one they had on the floor -- and they let me play the floor model for a month until the one I ordered arrived from Canada. I got the Tric case a few days later for $45.00 at another GC, they had just put it out on the floor, the only Tric case they had at the time and they were not expecting more for a few months!
Jammin'John1 March 6th, 2011, 12:30 PM I got a Maritime last year.
My first "real" acoustic in a very long time.
I like it a lot !

FastMattTX April 3rd, 2011, 09:02 PM colchar, congrats on your NGD... looks like you got a nice one!
They've really gussied up the S6 "original" since I got my S6 in 2002 - the standard S6 then didn't have rear binding, and the S6 Plus had a fully bound body with a plain headstock.
Not sure what it is about these things... I've been playing the heck out of my S6 since I decided last weekend to concentrate on playing rather than modding for the moment. I've got other guitars, but that one's getting all the love right now. A friend held a house concert followed by a song circle, and I want to participate next time.
Funny thing is, the most interesting player there had a Seagull, not sure what it was... glossy top, dark sides, might have been an old M6... but he was all over that guitar, strumming up on the fretboard at times and doing all sorts of little tweaks to make it sing. It was enlightening to watch and listen.
kp8 April 3rd, 2011, 09:04 PM I miss my Seagull S6. Sad day when I had to sell that. Painful trip to UPS that was. God speed little Seagull.
Congrats to Colchar
Tommy Biggs April 7th, 2011, 11:32 AM howdy y'all.
I did have the Bridge re-glued on my S6 C.W (1996).
Sound good now - crisper in the mids than I remember it - but maybe that's just new strings.
I paid $125. I've heard of cheaper prices (in the forums only though), but I went to a good shop, knowing I'd be paying at the higher end. I'm glad it's back in action - not that I ever stopped playing it.
anyway - just FYI.
Bongocaster April 7th, 2011, 12:06 PM Got mine at the beginning of the year to get back into playing after almost 20 years. I love it and picked out because it sounded more balanced than the other guitars I tried. And I am half Canadian.
I think they match the the Tele ethos. Very workman like, to the point, and of course, sound great.
Long range I'd like to get a 12 string and you can guess what I will be looking at first.
Stratavarious April 8th, 2011, 10:47 AM Things are a little slow here, so I'm joining up with my 2009 S6 Original. Great guitar. Can't believe the tone.

Bongocaster August 14th, 2011, 12:11 AM S6 for me and I am very happy with it. Surprised that the wide neck doesn't bother me when I jump on other guitars as its what I play most of the time.
Alanbama August 14th, 2011, 04:46 PM I have a new Artist Mosaic that I really love. I took the pickguard off because I like the Cedar so much!

BlueHeaven August 14th, 2011, 06:37 PM Directed my daughter to an S6 when she was buying her first acoustic a couple months back. I had read some really good reviews so that's where she started looking. She/we tried maybe 10-12 additional acoustics in that general price range (2 or 3 were above the range) and she kept saying "It can't touch the Seagull!"...I tend to agree. Fine stuff.
Alanbama August 15th, 2011, 10:52 AM They are wonderful instruments! From the least expensive on up, they're great!

Pretty much all of us in this thread.
Alanbama August 15th, 2011, 04:32 PM Well the Artist has a low F fret and is going back! I'm getting a Coastline with electronics and a cutaway. It has slim neck like I like. I hope it is the one!
Alanbama August 16th, 2011, 08:28 PM I'm getting the Coastline CW Q1 Slim tomorrow. Here is a promo pick. The pickguard is actually dark red.

craigs63 August 16th, 2011, 10:32 PM My S6+CW 00344414 (don't know what that serial means): Reminds me, I need to play more acoustic...
I picked it up used a year or two ago, has a Baggs 3 knob eq, cedar top, and a little pick wear (cedar = soft).

Stolen from a Harmony Central post:
I found this info on the lasidotalk.com forum:
"For those of you wondering how our serial numbers work, here's a brief explanation:
Starting in '93 we introduced the following system:
First two digits: year - fiscal year beginning August 1st of the year before
next two digits: week of the fiscal year
fifth digit: day of the week
last three digits: rank of instrument made that week
Example: 98113231 would translate as Wednesday, second week of October '97, 231st instrument made.
02361055 would be Monday, first week of April 2002, 55th instrument made."
Alanbama August 17th, 2011, 04:47 AM Nice guitar, Craig.
Alanbama August 18th, 2011, 11:23 AM I got my Coastline CW Slim Q1 Yesterday (08/17/2011), and I love it! The neck is just what I have been looking for. It's slim and fits my small hands just right! The sound is almost identical to the Artist. The difference I would suspect is the cutaway. But it sounds awesome! The fit and finish is great. I think I have finally found the one. I can't put it down! ( yes I removed the pickguard)

KtownRock August 22nd, 2011, 09:09 PM Forgive me if this is the wrong thread (it is also my first post) but does anyone know anything about the Seagull M6?
My local GC (I know, I know...) has a used one for sale for $199.
All I know is that it has mahogany body with a satin cedar top. Anyone know if it is worth it or just save my pennies for an Original S6?

S6 Original has cherry wood back and sides in a natural unstained finish, cedar top
S6+ has cherry wood back and sides in a brown stained finish, cedar top
S6+ gloss top has the same as the S6+ but has a gloss finish cedar top.
The M6 is considered an upgrade to the above models as it has mahogany back and sides with a cedar top and costs quite a bit more.

Half a heartbeat, though I'd really like to get my hands on an M12! (I think they made one a few years ago...)
Alanbama August 24th, 2011, 05:07 AM I'm not familar with the M12. Is that a custom made guitar?
FastMattTX August 30th, 2011, 01:39 AM Not custom but I think it's out of production.

Before Seagull decided it was necessary to *name* every line and model, "M" denoted a spruce top and mahogany back and sides, available with 6 or 12 strings.
Alanbama August 30th, 2011, 12:01 PM Oh. I need to learn some history. ;-) That's a very beautiful guitar!

I'm kind of rusty on what existed before the S and M series myself - the early Seagulls had yet another naming system. Pretty sure I heard an M6 at a jam session; didn't ask the model but the finish and wood looked like it and it sounded great.
Will be interesting to see what they do for their 30th anniversary in 2013 - loved what they did for their 20th. That flame maple-bodied beauty cost almost the same as a standard S6 at the time!

That site is notoriously unreliable and I cannot figure out why people continue to use it.
In addition, Seagull (maybe all Godin products) went to a twelve digit serial number in 2007 and, according to the Seagull representative I contacted, the new serial numbers provide absolutely no info regarding the production date.
NEwy December 16th, 2011, 11:12 AM Hey :)
i have a s6 + spruce and its actually a nice story how i bought it.
I am actually from germany and went to canada as an exchange student for a year. I started learning to play the guitar over there and i needed a good not to pricy instrument... So i went to my guitar dealer and tried out some, but there werent any nice ones so i looked around alittle more and found a used s6 without a price tag. I asked the guy in the shop and he said it was 200$ so i played it and was amazed by the sound so i bought it. That was in 2008 so now i wonder how old it is, and i went to a dealer here in germany and could only find the new model, but ive never found any other guitar with such a nice sound to it so now i still want to find out how old it is :D

LGOberean December 21st, 2011, 12:07 AM I've got a friend that had a 12-string 20 (+/-) years ago, and wants to get another one in the new year. Any recommendations in the Seagull line? I noticed above the reference to the M12, but I'm wanting to know about current production models.
In another thread, someone mentioned this: Seagull Coastline Series S12 Dreadnought 12-String QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar.

p90grinder December 22nd, 2011, 10:28 PM I have an S12 - very nice guitar. Its a little cheaper than the M12 (cherry sides and back) but still sounds great. What sold me was the neck - very playable.
Gary 787 March 7th, 2012, 06:29 PM I noticed at the The Acoustic Guitar Community they have a Seagull group as well. I have a new Natural Elements Heart of Wild Cherry dread on order. I heard they were starting to build them in April. Anyone else heard anything?

I just bought mine this weekend. I went with the CW Folk Wild Cherry back and sides. I wanted maple but have not found someone with it yet. I had to order it. My local shop is no longer a Seagull dealer and Guitar Center does not have them yet.
They are a Limited Edition. I have a 2002 S6 and a 2011 Parlor.
Veebus52 March 25th, 2012, 01:19 AM I'm a huge Seagull/Godin fan. I think that they are one of the best buys around. Here's my Performer CW Folk in flame maple.

Solrac Kai April 5th, 2012, 12:51 PM In with an S6 and a Studio Artist. BAM!
Gary 787 April 9th, 2012, 08:52 AM Hi I got a Natural Elements Cedar Top, Wild Cherry full dread. WOW! I am impressed so far... Nice Guitar and very much like the original S6 in tone. Beautifully balanced and aesthetically very nice. I love the raw look and the open tuners are kind of cool. I was a little concerned about the B-Band system but it is fine. I also got a Maritime SWS HG. Total eye candy and Holy crumoley I would put it up against anything in the 1k to 2k price range. I am pleased with both of these guitars and they are different enough that both are sharing my time. I suppose I could have gone to a more prestigious manufacturer but Seagull has won me over completely and being Canadian made is no brainer. Both were purchased on line from ACEMATE in Vancouver and I cant say enough about the service. I got a little concerned, actually a lot concerned when i was stopping in at my local dealer and the same guitars were still there with the same rusty strings and finger prints.
firemedic October 8th, 2012, 08:55 PM Seagulls! I love mine. I tried every single acoustic guitar in the Tampa Bay area that was <$800 (not exaggerating) and none came close to the cedar top acoustic/electric, I forget the model. So I have that & a cedar top 12-string. They are the best guitars for the price I ever tried.
The cedar tops make them sound a little dark so I replaced the nuts, pegs & bridges with Tusq; even better.
lineboat October 25th, 2012, 11:04 PM Oh Yeah! I love my S6 original. I've said it before, mine has seen more miles than most cars, and it never fails me! I pulled it out tonight after a couple months in it's case, and it was in perfect tune. I've had the Big Names, and while they're great guitars, they don't beat the tone and feel of a Seagull:grin::grin::grin:

Joe Sailor November 4th, 2012, 12:54 AM I just joined the club. I started taking flat picking lessons and the teachers Guild made me realize that my no name sound like junk. MT Tele November 27th, 2012, 11:12 PM Thanks Tommy,
I ended up buying the older S6. Turns out it is a 2001 model. There seems to be more nicks than I would like on the pick guard. how hard is it to replace them?
do you think I should attempt to do it myself or bring it to someone? I live in Los Angels.
I replaced the tortie with a black PG from StewMac. Just used a hair dries, and patience. Slow and steady is the key, let the heat do the work. The replacement PG had an adhesive back, went right on. Looks much better!
MT Tele November 27th, 2012, 11:18 PM Yeah that i will be trying next time. Gonna buy martin lifespan sp next with a free wallet! :)
I really like the Phos Bronze SP and Lifespan.

RickAC December 4th, 2012, 07:38 AM Hi guys, I just found this forum while doing some research about Seagull guitars.
I have a question about my Seagull Artist.
I haven't been able to play it for a while due to arthritis in my hands, so it has been sitting around unused. I am planning on selling it, to a local guitar store, and I have no idea what it is worth.
Does anyone know a site, or person that can give me an appraisal of it's approximate value?
It is a 2001 Rosewood-Spruce Artist cutaway, non electric, in VG condition.
Any info would be helpful. I am not in any big hurry to sell it, but it seems a shame to keep the guitar locked away in its case, not being played.
Thanks, Rick
chef0069 January 9th, 2013, 05:07 PM Just Picked up a used Entourage Rustic in mint cond for 250. Love the way the neck feels, love the tone. Big upgrade from my 16 year old Esteban beater! I'm gonna have to be careful, though, that cedar top looks mighty soft!
Bongocaster January 9th, 2013, 09:08 PM Kind of a coincidence that this popped up today. I'm still happy with my 2 year old S6. Just put new strings on last night and today I was musing about getting something a little smaller with a cutaway. Looking on the interwebs and I bet you can guess what brand I was looking at. ;-)
Obsessed January 10th, 2013, 05:55 PM Ooh man, you guys make me so jealous. I have 4 guitars, but I joined TDPRI to get help on selecting my first tele, however, my sixth guitar will be a Seagull Coastal Slim Spruce top CW, hanging on the wall at my nearest GC ... two states away from here. I lust about her daily, but my immediate need is a tele. I get to visit her once every few months alone in a quiet room (with trepidation from my wife). Arrrggggg ...

I feel the same way. I went looking for an acoustic specifically to play finger style blues early last year. I played just about every guitar by every famous ($$$) maker around. In the end I got a Seagull Maritime SWS Folk -- absolutely perfect for me. Plays and sounds way better than even the Clapton Signature Martin IMHO, and about 10% the cost.

That top is soft, but it only gets better with time! I have no clue how old mine is, (old no doubt) but it seems richer every year to me. And the neck gets smoother and slicker every year as well.:-)
golfishunts January 16th, 2013, 09:52 AM I have a blonde Seagull 12-string that I've had for about 10 years or so. I'm not sure what model it is. It's currently in the shop getting the bridge re-glued. Judging from several of the posts i've read here this is obviously a common problem with the Seagulls. My son took it in to the shop to have it restrung for me and get a new set of retaining pegs as a Christmas gift. The shop pointed out that the bridge was pulling away and that the neck needed adjustment. So now his gift to me will end up costing me over $120.00 out of my pocket just for the repairs. It will be nice to have it back in shape though. The only problem now is that when I get my seagull back I'll probably have to return my father's Taylor 12-string that I borrowed. lol

I don't know, I have an older (15 years?) S6 that I like and have defended/promoted here, that's getting worse with age. I also have a nice Martin that's getting better (it's not as old though). The Martin is a way way better guitar in tone, playability and construction. Worth every nickel.
The issue is that I could never have afforded the Martin when I got the Seagull.
Seagull makes great guitars, enjoy them in good health - but paying for other brands does make sense in some instances.

The quality of the tone/sound is different with every single guitar made. i still have my first guitar which i bought in 1976 for $130.00 (wholesale price) from Fava Music in Oak Park, Michigan. It's a Starfield acoustic which was an entry level acoustic made by Ibinez. It definately sounds better with age. How the guitar is used/stored/strung as well as environmental conditions all have an affect on how well a guitar ages. A well cared for "cheap" guitar can often sound better than a poorly cared for high-dollar instrument. Some of the more expensive guitars are simply more ornate than there brethren which usually has no affect on imroving the sound quality. If the higher expense is actually due to better contruction (solid flattop or archtop vs. laminates) or better materials used in the construction (types of wood, tuning pegs, bone bridge/nut vs. plastic) then the sound will often be proportionately better as well. And, as always, the true beauty of any guitar is in the ear of each individual. Play on....

That sounds about right. That Clapton Sig. Martin is a very sweet guitar, but worth $3000 more? I can't see it. Not unless you're invited to play Crossroads....
catnine March 17th, 2013, 03:00 PM I have a seagull coastline parlor I got in 2004 . It's been a great guitar . I had a chance in 2002 to get the grand artist with the solid wood body but couldn't affort it at the time.
The only issue mine had was once I removed all the strings the bridge saddle fell out and rocked . So seagull had a kit witha new saddle and the tusq bridge pins yet the saddles are all the same thickness so I made a rosewood shim and glued it to the back of the saddle so it would fit snug. I did find when they cut the slot the treble side had a small edge that was not cut clean so I fixed that with an exacto blade . I do have a solid tusq blank seagull sent me to make a new saddle but haven't done it yet. I know the bridge did not shink they just cut the slot to wide. by .010" . Also I found my grand also had a snug low E bridge pin . The plastic one that come with the guitar fit ok but when I got the tusq presentation pins I had to file the slot in that pin a bit deeper and can't use martin strings because the wrap has a string wound near the ball end. All the pin holes were the same size as well as the new pins . I did have an Art and Lutherie AMI had the same bridge and saddle but I never had a problem fitting any string and the saddle fit fine . I never compared the two and I had them both at the same time. I didn't want to ream the pin holes on the grand since you can't put wood back. I spoke to seagull and was told the bridge saddle may have shunk and I always had a dimpit in it and keep it in it's case. No matter how long I keep it damp the bridge never changed it sould have at least swelled some if it had shrunk and if it had the finger board would have too and it does not have fret ends sticking out . I just feel they had the machine setup wrong that day and cut the bridge wrong . Also if the saddle shrunk why would the slot be to wide and the pins tight makes no sense to me. Wish the nut was a bit wider , my fingers are not fat just not tapered so it's a bit close but I adjust.

shorter scale or something. I still play my friends s6 every chance I get. Oh well live
an learn
I have done that too , I think many do and it's a shame . When I got my grand I thought it was the same as the artist but didn't know they changed to the coastline . Mine is an S6 and does not say coastline anywhere . I think the coastline was made a bit later but they look the same. I think since mine says S6 it was once one of the originals before they put it in the coastline series. I Have the catalog from the shop when the grand artist was out and in this they have no coastline only S6 .
TelekineticBoss March 27th, 2013, 02:04 AM My very first guitar was a seagull rustic entourage cw a/e. its warm and mellow. A really great sounding and playing guitar for under $500. I reccomend this for a beginner or anyone looking for that sound you only get from cedar. And its made in north america. I have a martin and ill still play the seagull 60% of the time
catnine April 26th, 2013, 06:41 PM Anyone have a newer seagull? I have a 2004 grand but is see they changed the bridge and saddle now . I emailed Godin and they told me they no longer use slotted bridge pins but now slot the bridge . I can see the new saddle if you look at their website the ends are curved instead of flat and you can clearly see the slots in front of the pins . On their video they show this too. Mine is still in great shape and it was just before the coastline series came out mine says S series on the sticker. I raised my action a bit and got the tusq presentation pins they hold the string balls better against the bridge plate since instead of a deep square sided and bottom pin groove they have a small half moon shape . It came with plastic pins but I never trusted them they always bend back . I like the new rustic looking grand but with the funds I have there is no way I can get one in this lifetime. I like the DR strings they say they have less tension and they last longer than the godins I used to get. Godin told me DeAddario's are the same strings as godin sells.
