I am admittedly no expert here and do not have much experience so take it all with a grain of salt but I am very happy with the STR-1 Vintage neck and STL-1B Broadcaster bridge.

I was pretty happy with the stock Mexican pickups but wanted a little more clean sound or less muddy type sound, these really fit the bill. The neck is really clean and no underwater sound at all, the bridge has bite for days.

Anyway just putting it out there, these are great pickups.

The bad news? I am thinking of getting another telecaster and trying different pickups in it LOL!!

The Broadcaster gives up great all around tele bridge sounds, and I was recently surprised with the STR-1 neck pup, the one I had was not muddy at all. Are there better pickups out there? Yes, but at much greater expense. Great classic tele tones from that set.

I've been thinking about using the same set on mine. It's good to hear good feedback on the combo. I have a Nashville so I have to make up my mind on what to use for the middle pup with this combonation.

I think Jerry Donahue (sp?) plays a APS2 or something like that, its a Duncan alnico 2 (or 5 i forget) strat pickup in the neck of his guitar so that may be a good fit for the mid.

I will try to record it sometime, today maybe, I have to go to a eye dr appt etc but will be around.

The middle pickup on the Nashville, does it need to be reverse wound, reverse polarity (RW/RP)?

I have both of those pu's and the ST-R1 is in my Tele with a STL-1 and the STL-1b is in my Esquire and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Taylor Nauta prefers Lindy Fralins!(.......Yes, I'm speaking in third person and I have no idea why!)

No, but many like it that way for hum-free operation in 2 & 4 positions. Others feel that RWRP is somewhat of a tone suck, and prefer non-RWRP.

As far as what pup to use between the STR-1 and Broadcaster, I'd try the existing TexMex in the Nashville first. My preference would be using a Schaller Megaswitch, which gives the classic tele neck & bridge tone in the middle position, where the type of middle pup matters less.
