I've owned perhaps half a dozen Lyles (electric and acoustic) over the years......first one was a cats eye 335 copy back in the 60's. I had a Lyle acoustic in the early 70's that was the pass around guitar between a good buddy and myself. He put a huge hole in the lower bout after ingesting magic mushrooms for the first time...but I digress. Anyway, I've always missed that guitar as it played like a dream and had a sweet tone that belied it's humble origins. So, when I spotted this 'best offer' semi basket case Dove copy on craigslist, I offered a bit more than a pack of strings and got it.
It's been sitting in the corner for a few months, but I finally put a salvaged bridge and a used set of strings on it this morning and HOLY CANOLI BATMAN, this thing sings with a deep, fat, rich voice that has me quite thrilled. Not positive, but it sure looks like Brazilian rosewood on the back and sides. Anyway, I'm quite pleased with it as is, but I should install a bridge Dr. to lower the action a bit. Any other Lyle fans here?
