Another sd-1 ???

Okay, so I have my sd-1 back to stock. For kicks I thought I would put some germanium diodes (1N34A's) in thinking they would give me a little better overdrive.

Well, they didn't. In fact my pedal sounds as clean as clean can get. A clean boost if you will. I'm pretty sure I installed them correctly, green line torwards the positive side (the point of the arrow on the board pointing towards the green line).

Any ideas where I may have gone wrong?

Perhaps I have to replace something else in order to get them to work? They are quite a bit larger then the stock diodes.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Sounds like you've got the polarity of your diodes the wrong way round, the line at one end is the cathode. The arrow also points to cathode.

You need to turn them round basically.

Hmmm...I have them oriented with the arrow pointing towards the cathode, and all I get is a clean boost. I wonder if there is a way to tell if the diodes are bad?

Any ideas?

Okay I found a site that explains how to test diodes;

http://www.electronics-radio.com/articles/test-methods/meters/multimeter-diode-transistor-test.php

I'll post it here in case anyone else has the same question.

Now I wonder if it would be beneficial to replace all the stock diodes with germaniums, or just a select few?
