Big Box - was a mistake that turned out very cool - funny how that happens
it was Rick Holmstrom who coined " Big Box~Arch Top" to that pup -
its also tap-able. about 6.5 then 7.5 -- but most guys run them all the way up 7.5k

Rick says the tone is much like a Arch Top Humbucker guitar - but on a Tele - the tap can get you back to normal Tele tone when needed..

the main tricks is wire gauges are switched . and the magnets are "Taller" much like the Twisted Teles* (* Fenders )

Mine's coming with a two tap Sting Ray. I actually didn't realize when I ordered the Big Box that it was tapped as well, so I didn't think to ask about how I would have to wire it. I assume I could use a push-pull pot in both the volume and tone positions, one for each pickup?

I'm putting in a 4-way tele switch for the 3 bridge taps and the hotter neck tap by itself. The Neck pickup will also be on a mini toggle switch to switch between the "hot" neck and "regular" neck and to add either one to any of the bridge taps.

Essentially, it'll be a 5 pickup tele with 11 different combinations(if my math is correct).

Should be a cool setup. Of course, there'll be a bit of a learning curve to get all the different combos down. I'm sure I'll end up using only a couple of different settings...but it'll be cool to have the other ones there...ya know, when you just need that little extra something!?:lol:

You might think about using two push/poll pots. One to select between the two taps from the neck pup and the other to direct which ever neck tap is selected to either the neck position of the switch or the outside lug of the volume pot. By routing the neck pup to the volume pot you be able to have all the taps by themselves on the switch then all the taps in combination with either tap of the neck pup. And the control plate will still looks stock.

The Push Pull Pot has _two "banks"_ with 3 solder lugs each - so you could run both on just one P/P switch pot -(the neck on the left bank and the bridge on the right bank)-
but they are "both" going to be dedicated that a way -
You'll get both on _or_ both off is all you get. for some thats fine -

In my case I don't mind having two push pull pots, and I'd prefer to have them work independantly. I'm able to follow schematics and install a control plate and pickups from scratch, but I don't understand it, I just can do the grunt work. My question about it is, it seems to me that the tone pot is always the one that is used for a push pull coil tap. Is there any reason why a volume pot in a circuit wouldn't work the same as far as coil tapping with a push pull pot? Seems like it should, but for all I know there's some reason it won't.

Folks find it too easy to accidentally knock the P/P Volume pot down while picking / strumming is all - so they put it on the tone - out of harms way - hehe!

So I'll be needing a pair of them!

Glad to hear your doing well.

I'm not sure if it's "kosher" to ask, so thought I'd just post here and see. I was just wondering how far out my pickups might be? It looks like the "Freida" the Sparklecaster is just about finished(thanks to Uncle Buckocaster:lol:). It just needs pickups to bring it to life:grin:.

I'm really looking forward to getting them...I've yet to read anything less that a great review of any of your pickups. It seems everybody who has them... loves them.

Hope I'm not out of line asking...just anxious, I guess.

just wanted to post it here in my vendor page for all to see,
- I really do use these mariachi instruments to escape the electric world daily - Story goes, that they were all designed way back in the 1800's, to be light-weight so the mariachi could wander the streets or town to town - also they were designed to be loud enough to play small venues without amplifiers... ( No Pickups ) :wink:

Fire in the hole! Order's in for my "Green Onions" set. My first tele is just about to go together. I'll play it with some $20 Chinese pickups until my new ones come. This is very exciting for me.
