Density map of where forum members live?

I was just thinking, I wish there was an easy way to take the location information about members here and translate that onto a zoomable map of the world, like in Google maps or something.

You know, the kind of map that looks like this:

And no, I'm not suggesting this is a feature to add to Paul's list of 1001 things to do!

I just wish some programming genius could take the member info and do this automagically.

Bill, Paul will have to answer, but I think he does have something like this... I kind of remember him posting a world map and it was pretty neat...

There were way too many members in San Francisco and we proposed banning half of them to make it more fair for some of the other states though...

(I keed, I keed)

Can someone incorporate this for us into the HTML?

Hey guys, I'm working on about half a dozen projects right now and this is VERY low on my priority list.

By the way, a while back I looked into a mod that works with our software to do this and decided against it due to the massive server load they would hit us with. I couldn't justify the overall slow down for a map.

If I get time I'll consider looking to see if something better has come along.

Nooooooooo, not you Paul!

Maybe something such as the outside website where members can mark the city they're from.

That looks possible. So how do you edit it to add yourself or bulk add others?

Well.. I think if you type in your zip code or city name it will locate you on the map, Then save it with your user name. I think...

I couldn't figure out how to do the zipcode thing for it so I just zoomed in and stuck a pin into the middle of the city.

Just curious, as far as the way it's set up, couldn't a troll pull our pins and do other nasties?

Yeah if we were gonna do this for real it would need to be password protected, moderated, maintained by someone.
