Bridge Pickup Matching String Spacing Problem

I dropped a Seymour Duncan Chopper dual rail/stacked humbucker pickup into the single coil slanted bridge position on my tele and what I noticed is my first string isn't cutting through like the others. Close examination revealed the 6th and especially the 1st string aren't completely over the pickup rail so they're not getting the signal through as strong as the others.

Anyone run into something like this? What is a pickup that will adeqautely 'cover" all my strings? I really like the sound of that style of pickup in my strat but, it doesn't have the string coverage issue that my tele seems to have. Seems a string spacing issue where I need to get a pickup that "fits" with that spacing and that particular angle in the bridge?

Suggestions appreciated!

Thanks!

How far off are they? Is it a MIM or Japan or USA tele? I think the USA and MIM have about the same spacing, the asian built ones are a bit different. Also I think "vintage" spacing is a bit narrower than modern. Not sure if it helps, but I think it might be the direction to look if you really really like the pickup

It is MIM bridge. If you're looking straight down at the pickup, the 1st and 6th string barely are covered by only the edge of one of the rails, since it is a "dual rail" I would expect that both rails should "cover" all strings. The rails are also arched so that is adding to the problem. I think it's a poor design by SD and I'm guessing they are using the same pickup as for their strat, but just with a different 3 screw base so it will fit in a Tele bridge. Unless I get a new bridge with more narrow spacing, I don't think this PUP will work :( So, I'm open to getting a new pickup that will provide the output properly for all strings. I do really like the option of having a single or a a humbucker in a single space though...

Not sure if this applies to your situation, but many of the Humbucker pickups, come in both Fender, and Gibson spacings. You may have the wrong one for your guitar.

Is that the correct name for the pickup? I couldn't find a Seymour Duncan Chopper on the website.

Just for those that chimed in...I do appreciat it and wanted to provide an update. The bridge came off a MIM which does indeed have a broader string spacing than apparently most all pickups are designed for. I got a different bridge from a buddy to compare and for sure, the spacing on my buddy's bridge was more narrow. Good call OriginalMatthew!

On a side note, the folks at DiMarzio were just awesome to work with. Emailed them with issue, returned later that night with genuine concern, asked to see a pic, sent pic, and they said he understood the problem and maybe I could exchange it for another pole piece type that may provide better coverage...and I din't have a receipt! Just quick, pleasant, and more than willing to satisfy the customer. ~ Kudos to DiMarzio! ~
