valiant June 16th, 2009, 09:05 PM The club for the Fender Princeton enthusiast everywhere!
This most fine institution can always be relied upon to keep the tone.
While the circuit and uniform might have changed from tweed through
brown and from black to silver the Princeton tradition will reverberate
with tremelous effect for-ever-more.
For as long as mankind continues to oscillate between form and content
in search of expression........to give new discontent old school style and
find lost truth in just the most nouveau expressionisms. "TO BOLDLY GO!"
The Old Princetonian Club is open to owners present, past and future while guests are kindly requested to assume a demeanor of respect at all times.
The deep mystery and tradition of the Fender Princeton amplifier begins with the 5F2 and passes from the 6G2 onto the Princeton Reverb Amp....
the tradition is kept alive through the heritage of the original artifacts and the Fender PRRI.
(Honoury mention* and special thanks must be given to those artisans who
help to keep the Princeton tradition alive through repair work and cottage industry new builds.)
(*Valvetrain 205(5F2)*Allen Hot Fudge(6G2)*Headstrong Lil'King Reverb.)
The Old Princetonian Club seeks to uphold the tradition and adventure of
the most loved and best small amplifier in the world.
"To Intensity and Beyond"

valiant June 26th, 2009, 05:10 PM The Headstrong Lil'King is said to be an exact replica of the original Princeton Reverb Amp but how accurate a copy of the Brown Princeton (6G2) is the Allen Hot Fudge.

There are a few "improvements" in the Hot Fudge. It's a great sounding amp but I wouldn't call it a clone.
Wild Rice Chris June 28th, 2009, 12:52 PM I have videos of both on youtube..

What do you think of that Princeton Recording amp. I always thought if was an interesting idea but still haven't got a chance to hear one yet.
Targ July 8th, 2009, 03:54 AM Can I join? 1966 Princeton reverb. It had an oxfart in it but I just couldn't hang with it so I replaced it with a Weber 10A150T. Oxfart is saved in the box.

i quite like it, it's proving to be very useful in my recording endeavors...
the attenuator works very well, so it could be the perfect bedroom amp for a player who doesn't gig...
dgabbear July 12th, 2009, 12:52 PM Here is my beloved 1980 Princeton Reverb (Fender went back to blackface cosmetics during this period), and my '52 Hot Rod Tele. This Princeton has been modified with a Emi. Ragin Cajun, and a beefier Allen TO22 output transformer. It is my main gigging amp
toadman July 18th, 2009, 01:02 AM must.....have.....Princetonnnnn.....
Bill Ashton July 18th, 2009, 10:19 AM Perhaps five years ago or so I acquired a '75 SF Princeton through the help of the late Dougster. Nice little amp, better with a 12" speaker than 10," but just so close sonically to my venerable Guild 66-J that I had to move it on.
She was clean, clean, clean right up to full-tilt-boogie, and a pair of old Delco 6V6's added just the slightest bit of hair when full on. Would have been a great amp for a jazzer, and I often wish we had know about how loud and clean these were back in the mid-60's for the Brit-pop thing.
Bob Mc July 30th, 2009, 11:33 PM My main tube amp (since I will never finish my 5E3) is a 5F2A Prince circuit that lives in a Musicmaster Bass chassis installed in a Peavey cabinet. Thank the Lord she sounds so good, cause she is Fugly. I have an old MXR EQ in front of it and every guitar I play thru it is my favorite.
Wild Rice Chris July 30th, 2009, 11:41 PM Here's a clip of my '64 6G2:

valiant July 31st, 2009, 04:02 PM The Old Princetonian Club is not to be confused with Princeton,Yale,Oxford,Cambridge as age old historic institutions of the class system that serve to uphold the hegemony of dead white european males and is more about Elvis,Jim Morrison,Kurt Cobain and Sid Vicious....that went wrong!

well ok then.
with reverb or without?
cminor7b5 August 1st, 2009, 01:02 PM I believe mine is a '79. It came with a 10" Emminence Legend. Don't have any other speakers to compare it to. Sounds great. Blues Jrs just don't have that real Fender reverb imo. THe luscious tremelo is a bonus and i use it more than I thought I would.
cheers

Middleman August 1st, 2009, 06:45 PM Well, I just joined the club.
Saw this at Guitar Center today, they wanted $500 (which I would have paid) but I offered them $400 +tax. Came with the orginal manual, original components that had been changed as well as the original tubes. Plays great, sounds amazing. 1977 Princeton Reverb.
