Epi Valve Jr. HeadxStonr June 15th, 2009, 10:05 PM I know there are quite a few of them out there in these parts. So let's see em. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b267/xStonr/Epi-w_Smokey.jpg PA Woody June 19th, 2009, 10:17 AM No pics at the moment but I bought one when they first came out. Also have the 12" cab. Unmodded(except for tubes), and will probably remain so. I'm not very handy with a soldering iron. Martin R June 19th, 2009, 01:20 PM I saw Johnny Burns, (son of Jethro Burns from "Homer &...) play a strat thru one of these. Only had a compressor in front of it. Amazing tone! I'll soon be a member of this group. If nothing else, it will be a great back up to my '65 Deluxe. Martin E. Christina Herr & Wild Frontier (http://EChristinaHerr.com) ChicknPickn June 19th, 2009, 03:18 PM I LOVE my Valve Jr. head and pair of matching Epi cabinets. A full stack! I was curious as to whether a Tung-Sol 12ax7 would make a noticeable difference. It was a cheap enough mod, so I tried it. The answer is an unconditional yes. Try one, you'll be glad you did. I like to put a compressor and reverb pedal in front of mine. Truly a lot of fun. Thats Cool! The plan my 15 yr old son and I had..maybe 2 sets for stero! How did you tie 2 skeaker cab in...Install a output jack on one? ChicknPickn June 19th, 2009, 04:42 PM Thats Cool! The plan my 15 yr old son and I had..maybe 2 sets for stero! How did you tie 2 skeaker cab in...Install a output jack on one? Since the Valve Jr. gives you an 8-Ohm speaker output, you can buy a 1/4-in. mono splitter to connect two 16-Ohm cabinets. Works like a charm. All you need is the "Y" splitter and two good cables, all available from Radio Shack. mchet June 21st, 2009, 07:47 PM Gotta say that this amp sounds incredible with a '79' Les Paul Custom playing through it! I didn't love the sound with my squier custom, but the les paul sounded great! The Westone Rainbow II sounded pretty nice too!!! The only mod I did so far was jumper mod. But that opened the amp up soo much! I am waiting for the parts to upgrade the jacks and pot from http://www.turretboards.com/valve_junior_page.htm I plan to upgrade the OT next month and maybe order the populated fender mod board. historic yulee July 21st, 2009, 10:54 PM Howdy, all. Got my Vjr head (pics soon) nearly two years ago, $100 new, haven't messed with anything other than dropping a JJ 84 in and a GE 12AT7...tried a Mullard, did not like it. I'll be modding it as soon as I'm clear with myself on the safety issues, and I'm really looking forward to getting a little more clean headroom, slightly more solid bass (though not to the extent of switching to a 6l6...at least not yet), and the general improvements reported by swapping OTs...honestly, with an EBS, a Rat & Bass Grunge both set to clean right up with the volume knob, and an EQ pedal, I'm in love...had the pedals for years, so no cost there, and the sound is just *nearly* perfect for me. It's running into a Sovtek 2x12 w/Eminence v128s, which I'm considering swapping out for a version with the aforementioned bass extension/tightening and a bit less midrange so I can get away without the eq pedal. I started out splitting my signal between it and (reportedly) the last EH Freedom Amp made*, but now I've got the EH pulling 'reverb' duties, taking the wet out from a Holier Grail while the dry/mix goes to the Junior. At this point, I don't know that I could be happier, for roughly $400 including 2x12 & shipping. As soon as all things green start looking up again, I have a feeling another one's gonna be coming to take the EH's place. Not that I don't like it's sound, but just for the sake of having something a little more heavy-duty...figure to rewire the cab and run them both to a seperate speaker. On that note, can anyone report on low-wattage 12" sounds? The V128's are apparently pretty high-wattage, and I dig it alright, but I miss the speaker breakup a little...sometimes... Sorry so long, new member I am. -Alan *I know this is off-topic, but there are no clubs for it, and I doubt there ever will be...but the EH is just incredible for what it is. with the back off, the little guy gets CRAZY loud. Like, honestly, louder than the Vjr+2x12 cranked...it's little pine finger-joint box starts to fart a bit, the 8" may honk, and the solid state breakup may not be heaven, but wow, barely 1/4 of the way up, and it hangs right alongside the Vjr turned to 3 o'clock with lovely clarity (at least for what I do)- it definitely helps fill out the sound...not to mention, it's beautiful, incredibly light, small, it's survived some knocks my old GK bass amp didn't, and is totally battery-powered...I'm done now :) photoweborama July 21st, 2009, 10:58 PM My kid has a stack. awesome tone. He can't crank it because it is so stinking loud with his Gibby LP running into it... battleminnow July 24th, 2009, 03:15 AM My #2 amp is an Epiphone Valve Jr with the BitMo push/pull tone/gain mod, played through a Lopo Line Cabinet with a Celestion 30. She is pretty, and sounds really great for any dollar, let alone less than $100 used!
