Calling all Super Reverb lovers.

Early 70's Super Reverb in J.D. Newell head cab.

I built a Super Reverb circuit (BF specs, trem channel only, added a PPIMV control) into a VibroChamp chassis and put it in a pine head cab.

Glorious BF tones. Big, clear 6L6 sounds with the warmth of the BF circuit.

Does that count as a "real Super?" If so, count me in :)

I love Super Reverbs... They're SUPER!!!

At one time I had a 65, 2 66's, a 68 and a 65RI... I sold the 65RI and the 68.

I had one of the 66's in a head that someone cut down a SR cab (not me) but I put it in a 2x10 JD Newell cabinet with 2 Weber 10A125 speakers.

but my back doesn't! I switched to Weber Sig 10S alnicos to lighten the load a little bit.

I have a '68 that i use more than any other amp I have. It is my go to amp for just about anything!

I have a '69 that's been BF'd inside and out, also "optimized" by Joe Barden. Screams like it's gonna be illegal soon. :twisted: I've had many SRs over the past 40+ years, they've always been my "go to" amp. (Especially since I discovered WHEELS. :idea: Hehe.)

I've said for a long time that playing a Super Reverb cranked to 7.5 or above is something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. ;-) LOVE 'em. CS

Maybe I'm the odd guy out, but I regularly play at home with my Super at 4-7on the volume knob. There are some beautiful cleans when playing between 3-4 but I am not at all against cranking it either....as long as it's not the middle of the night I actually have neighbors give me the thumbs up as they walk by the house:mrgreen: (music room window is on the second floor overlooking the street).

The tone knobs are hugely important too--I usually set mine T:6 M:5 B:2-3 (based on volume setting) and R: 2-3. Setting the tone knobs lower allows you to turn up the volume a little more without getting extra gritty/loud, so if I want to crank it up to 7 or 8:shock: I'll set the tone at T: 4.5 M: 4 B: 2 R: 2.

Got a 73 SFSR I play all the time...never been blackfaced or modded...I like it just the way it is......I play the hell out of it!!!!

I used to have a '68 drip guard with Lansings. It was like moving a bank vault. I didn't regret selling it. A year or so ago my brother basically gave me his SRRI for the low price of $200. It isn't the '68 but it does get the "big Fender amp" thing going for me. I forgot how much I missed the reverb and trem.

My favorite Fender Amp is a Super Reverb.

Proud owner of a '72SF and a '67BF. Former sounds best to me...believe it or not.
Had a 90's SRRI too that didn't sound too bad either.
lined up all three once:mrgreen:, crancked to 7 or so, went deaf for a few days...

i recently bought a 60's blackface super reverb that someone put 2 x12's in it and i would like to put it back to the 4x10 configuration.any suggestions on speaker with out getting to expensive?

If you can find them the 10" Blue alnico speakers that Fender put in the 1st reissue of the 4x10 Bassman (circa 1980's?). They're the same as the Eminence Legend Alnico 102's. Put those on the top and Ceramic Legend 105's on the bottom.

Here's mine, got it from Mellecaster over the summer. It's a 75 or 76 I think, and I can't remember the specs on it, it's mostly original but with a changed power chord a couple tubes and I think the reverb unit? I'm sure he'll chime in.

Saw it sitting in the corner of his shop and thought it looked really cool without the front screen and a little crusty (albeit a little dangerous... if I start gigging again I'll get a front-screen and back-cover)

Plugged in and I was blown away by the sound. Like everyone else says, it sounds AMAZING loud, quiet, clean or when pushed and it's plenty loud for almost every situation. I set it up to run clean and loud and then just stomp on an overdrive box for leads or rock rhythm.

Dunno why people turn up their noses at the MasterVolume models, I just keep it on 10 and use the channel volume knob as usual... no adverse effect on my killer super sound!

Sorry again don't know the specs, but I'm in the club since it is my favorite amp! (and only one right now!)

To add to 2Tone's Post...that is a 76 Super Chassis (All original except tubes) in an Old kinda Crusty 1975 Cabinet...w/ 3 original (and patched up) CTS Alnico speakers...and another of the same that had been reconed....Original Hammond Reverb Tank...I was gonna make it Pretty to resell, but 2Tone liked it w/ the "Road Warrior" look....really does Sound Great though.

This is what happened to the Original 75 Super that was in 2Tone's cabinet...I went all through it and installed it in a New Mojo Cab w/ Jensen Reissues...and it was for another Customer, and turned out Pretty...but 2Tone's sounds better...Go figger......:wink:

i can get 4 new emi fender blue frames for around 200 dollars or the weber cta 10 for around 400 dollars.are they really worth the money? thanks in advance

Yes absolutely, but you won't get natural overdriven sound even with the master volume, gotta crank it up for that even with the Master Volume I've found... These push/pull master volumes are weird, even with it pulled out (I guess it's like a gain boost?) it doesn't make the signal THAT much gainier.

But yes, stupendous clean tone at bedroom levels.

The master volume "...allows me to set my volume according to the context of band, room, listeners tolerance..."

Again, it stays pretty clean until you're up at like 6 or more, even then it's not gonna be a like a Marshall superlead or anything. Need a pedal for the rock-style stuff.

Those are some lovely boxes guys! Got a question - Does anyone know what kind of speakers SRV had in his Super Reverbs?

My Super, a '68 that I scored for a hundred bucks quite a few years ago. Dan Torres of Torres Engineering did his 'SRV' mod and added an effects loop.

Who ISN'T a Super Reverb lover?? When I toured Colorado with Firefall in the early 80's, Jock Bartley had a Super Reverb I would use that had 4 JBL E-110's! Took two people to lift it. but the sound....OMG.
