Modifying humbucker to fit shallow neck pup cavity [Archive]

Hey All

I bought a Seymour Duncan humbucker for my American tele, I'm going to try installing it in the neck position. The mounting brackets go too deep for the cavity depth. It sits directly against the body and the pickup is almost level with the strings. Rather than routing the cavity, which I will NOT be doing, I was wondering if anyone simply bent the sheet metal bracket so that it is even with the base of the pickup? I think this will work, but if there is anyone who has tried this and has some input I'd like to hear it.
