I'm trying to record with my Brown Deluxe and I keep getting annoying static that seems to be sound-driven. Anybody got a quick fix for this, and a more permanent one down the road? Thanks.

Rattling tubes?Strat62 May 31st, 2009, 08:54 AM I'm trying to record with my Brown Deluxe and I keep getting annoying static that seems to be sound-driven. Anybody got a quick fix for this, and a more permanent one down the road? Thanks. reverberocket2 June 1st, 2009, 11:28 AM Combos are rough on tubes. I have been noticing some rattling tubes in my Vibro Champ and MMB amp. Certain notes/frequencies seem to really bring out the rattle. Also it seems much worse when on an amp stand or tilted back. You can try some of the silicon O rings they sell to reduce rattle. If that does not work and it bothers you -- retube Opaltone June 3rd, 2009, 04:02 PM static that seems to be sound-driven "Static" sound points toward another possible problem with a tube - the pins are not properly connecting. There are two ways to deal with this problem: 1) clean the tube pins, and/or 2) re-tension the tube socket(s). Rattling is a kind of tube microphony, which, as reverbrocket2 said, can be amended to a degree with tube dampers (such as a Viton heat-resistant O-ring). I've experienced this as if there is a phantom tambourine player, who only sounds the tambourine when I play one certain note. - T Sterling Indigo June 3rd, 2009, 04:08 PM For tube rattles, I use silicon o-rings/tube dampners and spring loaded retainers. Kind of like wearing a belt and suspenders at the same time but I'm retentive like that when it comes to unwanted noise. |
