Do any of you post at harmony central messageboards?IndyGuitarist May 6th, 2003, 10:04 AM Just curious. Lance May 6th, 2003, 10:37 AM It was a waste of time. Mostly, it seems to be frequented by obnoxious brats. Very few straight answers. TheGoodTexan May 6th, 2003, 10:41 AM I agree. It can be a waste of time, but I've had a few success stories. MLT May 6th, 2003, 02:22 PM Typically, when I sell something I post at the Garage Sale, Weber VST and HC. I usually try to sweeten the deal for folks here and over at Weber. I'm also much firmer about my policies over at HC just because it's bigger and there are some rascals over there. The biggest change I've had to make recently is insisting on PayPal (to confirmed addresses) with folks I don't know. In the last year or so, there has been an absolute explosion of flakes who promise to mail payment, then never do. I find this especially problematic because the mail is so slow. A couple of times I've turned away good-faith buyers, only to find out that the guy I was waiting on was a flake. That's not right and it's not fair, but you'd be surprised how indignant these guys can get when you suggest that they owe you money. It ain't worth it. PayPal solves that. I know the same day whether I have a serious buyer or a flake on my hands. Bob Mc May 6th, 2003, 03:06 PM and then realized how awful most of the other posts were. You can read some of them out loud for comedic effect. BLACKCAT69 May 6th, 2003, 03:06 PM I posted a product review because i felt strongly in the item ( Danelectro Dan-Echo pedal.) I felt the reviews were worth browsing through. If you read enough of them you'll get a feel for which ones provide real information. 5965 May 6th, 2003, 05:00 PM I tried to post a fairly objective but negative review of one of Fuller's pedals, and it got bounced by the guy who runs the board. Since then I've learned I'm far from the only one to encounter the phenomenon, so I don't bother posting, and I don't bother reading. Like somebody else said on another forum: that's why all the ratings are so high. IndyGuitarist May 6th, 2003, 05:35 PM I tried to post a fairly objective but negative review of one of Fuller's pedals, and it got bounced by the guy who runs the board. Since then I've learned I'm far from the only one to encounter the phenomenon, so I don't bother posting, and I don't bother reading. Like somebody else said on another forum: that's why all the ratings are so high. I remember a year or two ago on here, it seemed like EVERYONE loved fulltone stuff...I've thought of buying one, but I keep hearing alot of negative stuff about him and his products...what was your experience? Also, I post at hc effects forum, and there are some nice guys there, but the 15 year old smartalecks outnumber the good ones, it seems. Brian 5965 May 6th, 2003, 06:06 PM I got a '69 and Fulldrive II. The '69 lacked sustain and didn't sound the way the originals did (I had one for 20-something years before it disappeared). The Fulldrive II didn't work for me and/or with my stuff. Both sounded two-dimensional. [Equipment used: various old Strats and Gibsons, old Fender/Marshall amps, '80's amps.] I thought there might be an possible adjustment I could make to fine-tune the units or that something might have been damaged in transit, so I emailed him and asked for help. He replied quite tersely and aggressively that there was nothing wrong with his pedals (although he couldn't possibly have known that). I was beyond offended and sent the stuff back immediately. I did get a refund. I subsequently found out he went off on a lot of people. As it happened, I found an old red Dunlop FF with NKT275's that sounded very, very much like the originals, and I eventually got another original. To me, his pedals don't sound like the originals. They have their own sound. I realize this is a politically incorrect position, and I'm not saying the pedals aren't good: they just didn't work for me, and after the way he treated me, I'd have sent them back even if they did. DavidL May 7th, 2003, 11:26 AM To me the reviews have been helpful, although I agree that they are almost always like "This this the holy grail tone...blah, blah blah..." On the other hand it seems that the forums are populated almost entirely by formerly pimply twenty-somethings who, perhaps lacking significant others, express their pent-up libidos by piling on criticism on anyone who disagrees with the prevailing view of ther day - for example, that the super-wondra-5150 beats the Marshall quadra-hyper-mega distorto-stack or somesuch. Generally I've seen their forums disintegrate into comments (sometimes vulgar) that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic. Reminds me of a crowded men's room at Madison Square Garden during a Metallica concert (not that I've ever been to one...) Otherwise, I like Harmony Central! Steve McGinnis May 7th, 2003, 03:59 PM I still use the classifieds, I never look at the forum anymore, occasionally some of the reviews. SIB May 7th, 2003, 05:54 PM I sometimes post on HC, but there is really much spam and people are guided by prejudices. guitar-eric May 15th, 2003, 08:33 AM & on here at the garage sale & imho both are much better than ebay. |
