That thing is really clean. To bad about the p'up swap. I guess when Fender switched the tele to buckers in 72, someone thought it looked like a good idea....I have one of those also, and I can tell you that it wasn't. My 78 has a SCPB in it along with the bucker, and a pan pot instead of the tone control. SCPB that came in these basses is great! This is a good example of why these basses are so rare in original condition. The ones that didn't have something like this happen to them, probably got refinished.

I personally prefer the single coil myself and have no idea how that Guild PU would sound.
Besides the PU that thing is just beautiful. I wish I had the $$ to bid on it.

but at least this one is mounted where the original pickup placement was, so...it might sound better than the one I have with the bucker up at the neck. These things do have really nice necks, if you like the old style p bass neck, which I do! This one looks like it hardly got played. Kind of makes you wonder, if it was a good player, why did it spend so much time in the case?

I had a buddy that played the bass equivalent of the Guild S-100 back in the 70's. That was a good sounding bass as I recall. That pup might not sound bad at all. Thankfully I don't have the dinero to find out ... Thatnkfully in the interest of domestic bliss that is !
