Hey guys, I've done the soldering iron trick installing ferrules in a poly finished body. My question is can I use the same trick on a nitro finished body?
Many thanks.

Ferrules, nitro finish and the soldering iron trick?BritishBluesBoy April 9th, 2009, 04:07 PM Hey guys, I've done the soldering iron trick installing ferrules in a poly finished body. BritishBluesBoy April 9th, 2009, 04:23 PM I've done it on a Nitro body before. Cool. Thanks mate. garymaddox April 9th, 2009, 04:25 PM Hey guys, I've done the soldering iron trick installing ferrules in a poly finished body. My question is can I use the same trick on a nitro finished body? Could you please explain how that works? Preb posted a picture of a soldering iron stuck into a Tele ferrell but did not go into details. I have a Tele build where the ferrells are "proud" and I would like to remedy that. Thanks, BBB. Stuco April 9th, 2009, 04:29 PM You stick the iron in there to heat up the ferrell and put the ferrell in the hole with the iron to get the finish hot so it will slide in there with the finish slightly melting and fitting perfectly around the ferrell. Jack Wells April 9th, 2009, 05:19 PM I have a Tele build where the ferrells are "proud" and I would like to remedy that. Your ferrules were probably intended to be that way. If they're standing proud like on a MIM Standard Telecaster the soldering iron isn't going to make them flush. A #1 phillips screwdriver will fit into the ferrule hole and holds the ferrule in position. I use a manila folder guard just in case the hot ferrule decides to go skipping across the back of the guitar. Hasn't happened yet but you never know. ......http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/jwells393/X-Caster/FerruleInstall.jpg Ironwolf April 9th, 2009, 06:44 PM I did a set on a nitro finish last night. Stumpwizard April 9th, 2009, 09:04 PM Don't heat them up too long or you can cause bad things to happen with fresh nitro... Don't ask me how I found that out! |
