Thought it might be cool to see what everyone is playing this week (and weeks ahead! - Sticky!).

I hold down the bottom end with my trusty Thunderbird, DI to the board, Aviom monitor, old school 'phones.

3/1/09:

Love the Lord
Shout to the Lord
Wonderful Merciful Savior
He Knows My Name

Love The Lord is a favorite for me because it has kind of a Motown/Jamerson bass line.

That's a great tune. Our congregation isn't quite that rockin' but I hope we can do it for the youth sometime. We play a ton of Chris Tomlin.

It's fun. I use the LP with the Rat cranked up. We are lucky to be able to do a nice mix of music, from older stuff, to some more rockin' tunes.

I remember seeing Daniel Carson in a video explaining his playing - cranking the amp and overdrive to nearly feeding back as I recall. Very cool.

One time, I incorporated some feedback like that - feedback into the starting riff, and at the big ending, and while we thought it was cool, the sound guy totally freaked out. I doubled the rat with my fulldrive for those parts, it was awesome. Probably not the best idea on a Sunday morning in hindsight.

We did Let God Arise at Easter time last year, and probably will again this year (my wife is the worship leader so I have a little pull). It is a very powerful song on Easter morning...

We did it last Sunday, and it was also pretty powerful.

also, Organ, and Harmonica (which A.T.M. is lost, but I don't like major key harmonicas anyway, I'm going too buy a natural minor tuned one). I might also buy a Bass this year.

And in the distant future, I can picture myself playing the Mandocello, Violin, and Baritone Guitar.

I plan to take over the world of music one instrument at a time.

We play a number of songs from Lincoln Brewster, Chris Tomlin, Starfield, Nichole Nordeman, Tommy Walker, Jeremy Camp, etc. Additionally, our worship team leader is a professional that has written original music that we incorporate into the services as well. Here is an example from our Night of Worship live CD: http://vimeo.com/2936272

We recorded the entire evening late last Sept and produced a CD that we use for ministry purposes.

Unfortunately for me I can't play for our last evening contemporary service til fall (our worship leader/youth pastor's wife [who happens to be our piano/keys/general musical band glue] is due with their first baby on July 1) but they are doing a full night of music and it is killing me that I can't play, especially since I've got the brand new tele that I need to debut. I'll post the set list once I find it

For our big contemporary service they are playing:
You lifted me out - Tomlin
Everlasting God - Brewster
Yesterday, Today and Forever - Beeching
Here is Love - Redman
You never let go - Crowder
You never let go - Redman (not a typo)
2 songs by Dr. David Harris from Baptist Bible College
I will rise - Tomlin
Blessed be your name - Redman
Praise you in the storm - Casting Crowns

I was suprised that we aren't doing Sing, Sing, Sing by Tomlin since it is our trademark song and that we aren't doing the one written by our band, In Christ.

Our band, New Vision, led worship at our church this past Sunday for both morning services for the first time ever. Our primary ministry focus is outside the four walls of our church (e.g. prisons, other churches, retirement communities, etc.). We have sung at other events (e.g. luncheons and banquets) but never led the entire worship service.

Nevertheless, here is our set list from Sunday:

1. Your Grace Is Enough - Chris Tomlin (key of A)
2. Trading My Sorrows - Darrell Evans (key of A)
3. Blessed Be Your Name - Matt Redman (key of A)
4. How Great Is Our God - Chris Tomlin (key of C)
5. Because He Lives - Bill & Gloria Gaither (key of C)

I just got the email for this Sunday's list (6/14/09)

Grace Like Rain
Washed by the Water
More Love More Power
Mighty to Save
Find You Waiting (Decemberadio)

About 3 weeks ago our Pastor walked in on a practice before Church and heard us playing Amazing Grace (Our Chains are Gone) with my distortion going and power chording it out. He loved it and told us not to go back to Egypt again. He'll probably request it right before the sermon starts again this week.

I love it since my lil brother took over as WL. Although I would still like to have a practice during the week, at least knowing the songs a day or two in advance beats showing up Sunday morning and getting a list of songs you've never heard. Plus I love my lil brother. :)

Set list for 6/21/09

1. Praise You in this Storm
2. Blessed be Your Name
3. Strong Tower
4. Mighty to Save
5. Lord Reign in Me
6. I Will Boast

Will be real interesting this week. We usually have a drummer, bass player, rhythm guitar (me), fiddle, flute, organ, keys and 2 vocalists. Due to commitments it will only be the drummer, bass player, myself, and the vocalists this week. I discovered in rehearsal this week how much more your mistakes show up in the mix when playing only with a combo. I can play half the songs really well and the other half not so well but I am confident I'll be good to go by Sunday. Great set list in my opinion.

Looks like a good one, haven't seen ours yet, doesn't matter much anyway, I am on the recording console this week anyways. Oh well, we had a halfway decent set list last week, we had Jesus Messiah and our original In Christ, I got to bust out the tele and our lead electric player was playing his sunburst Strat, looked like a family reunion on stage, I told my brother who made his own neck through body bass out of walnut and ash that he needs to that he needs to get a sunburst P-bass :)
