5way switch for 4way switchingDroopyfloyd February 19th, 2009, 11:11 AM Anyone have a diagram of using a 5position switch for the 4way tele mod. I want to use the 5th position as a kill switch. Deaf Eddie February 19th, 2009, 04:23 PM Can't be done with a traditional Strat 5-way switch, because the Strat 5-way isn't really a 5-way - it's just a 3-way with extra "in between/shared-lug" stops. The 4-way IS a real four-way, no shared lugs. To get what you want, you'd have to use a Superswitch 5-way. If you get a Superwitch and still want to do that, I'll draw it up for you. sjtalon February 19th, 2009, 04:42 PM Another option so you could still do what you want with the 5-way(or they should be called a 3 way twice switch) is put in a push/pull switch do series. Sometimes I call my mother-in-law a superwitch frankus February 20th, 2009, 12:58 PM Can't be done with a traditional Strat 5-way switch, because the Strat 5-way isn't really a 5-way - it's just a 3-way with extra "in between/shared-lug" stops. This new learning interests me. I've wired my tele up with a strat 5-way thusly: C| vol 1| neck hot 3| bridge hot 5| neck - C| earth 1| neck - 3| bridge earth 5| neck hot It sounds like I get 3 standard tones, a really thin tone (which I love) and the neck tone again. I'm thinking of stopping the rotor at 4 so I get more clearance between the volume and selector ... I'm going to scrutinize 4 way switches on google images and see what I'm missing :) Deaf Eddie February 20th, 2009, 01:30 PM Frankus, that thin tone at throw#4 is both pups, parallel, neck out of phase. The neck in throw #5 is the neck AGAIN with its phase reversed, but since there is no other pickup playing, it just sounds normal. That's a clever way to use a Strat 5-way to get at least ONE more tone out of two pups. There's another thread I participated in that shows you how to get four tones out of two pups with a Strat-style 5-way, but there, the extra tone we were going for was the series combo (like the Fender 4-way mod). I'll link to it, if I can find it... There are a couple of other schemes to get five tones from a Strat 5-way out of two pups, posted here in the archives (http://www.tdpri.com/wiring5wayStrat.htm)... |
