Anybody have one of these? I like an OD that doesn't color the amp tone. I've got an old TS9 that I always go back to, but I'm still searching for the Holy Grail.

I owned the original Japanese one (chinese AX7 tube), but regretably sold it a few years ago. Its a great pedal if you want a crunchier overdrive with more gain than a TS-9 (lots of gain is available). At low settings it does clean too, but excels at that Marshally/cranked Fender crunchy sound. It sounds better through certain amps, and not others. While it can be plenty harsh/thin, it has EQ that allows you to dial in good tone - you definitely have to mess with knobs/EQ until you find your sound.

I have a TK and it is a great pedal. It may color your tone more than you want though. It does put it's own stamp on your tone. I will say it is one of the most versitile overdrive pedals I've used. A wide range of tone abound in this box. As the other post said, the over the top marshall type tones with dripping harmonic content are what this pedal excelles at. One other thing I noticed right off about the TK was how detailed and rich the disortion is. IT just sound like a class pedal when you hit the switch. It is really to much pedal for my needs. I had it in the garage sale. A few lookers but no takers. Maybe I'll just hang on to it. It seems eveytime I sell a pedal I'm not using at the moment, I suddenly have a need for it! If you are used to a Tube Screamer....The Tube King is nothing like it!. A lot more gain and versitilty than the tube screamer.

Brad that's kind of what I'm dealing with myself. Lost most of mine playing in San Francisco in the late 60's! But I'm curious about your comments. I want a pedal with more gain than my TS9, but one that doesn't color the sound of my old Fender amps much.

I had a later model , wasn't too impressed.
Apparently the early models were different , had a built in ac power, and some say they sound better, the later ones are the same as the Chandler, Tube Works, are all generally the same pedal--using the BK Butler design with the 12AX7 tube.

If you want a transparent OD - have you tried the Nobels ODR1? it doesn't have the mid boost that a TS has, though I personally like the TS with single coils.
