JohnK24 February 15th, 2009, 08:33 PM Are the sound samples on the Dimarzio website accurate or darn close ?
I'm interested in the neck pup:

I love that clarity and snap...thinking of putting one in my CV tele.
thanks,
J
1962guitargeek February 15th, 2009, 09:01 PM yep. I like 'em. a lot.
I got an e-mail from my buddy, well you read it.
hey ray!
I hope you are enjoying your long weekend.I have a question for you.How much would you un-ass that awesome telecaster you have for?...
Or another question would be,,, how'd you like to build one with a killer humbucker in the bridge and a hot single coil in the neck?... just food for thought.... toss the ideas around and give me a shout back when you have a few minutes....
Thanks!

e-merlin February 15th, 2009, 11:12 PM Yep. The Twang King neck pickup is pretty darn close to the top of the heap, and nothing in its price class touches it. You have to spend twice the money to get a better pickup and it's going to be marginally better at best. Well, unless you can find a Chandler Super 60.
gotdabluz February 16th, 2009, 12:18 AM I've seen (heard) a few clips . . . there is a youtube video somewhere (on youtube), with someone employing a Twang King bridge pu in a squier box - sounds pretty nice to my old ear.
That being said, I have a set of Dimarzio 'True Velvet T' pups waiting to go into 'home brew' tele thinline project. . . If they are anywhere's near as good what I have heard, or as good what people say the Twang King's are, then I am in for a treat for sure
elelpe February 16th, 2009, 06:39 AM Can't hardly wait for your review on True Velvet T set, Gotdabluz!
woodman February 16th, 2009, 09:31 AM i used a Twang King neck on one project and thought it was a lot of bang for the buck.
however, i've found pickup sound samples to be virtually useless, since so much of the tonal factor depends on the guitar and amp used.

Not to mention that most computer speakers are not very hi-fi.

And to my ears, that is the case with the DiMarzio clips.
FWIW, my neck pickup sounds MUCH better than that clip. But that doesn't tell you if it is what you are looking for. Mine sounds round, bassy, jazzy and "huge." It CAN sparkle, but I use a Fender amp, so it's much more warm and full than "sparkly."
Webfoot February 17th, 2009, 12:14 AM Who has the true velvets?
gotdabluz February 17th, 2009, 10:25 PM Who has the true velvets?
. . . well . . . I do, but they are not installed yet . . .
my whole 'thinline' project is still in a state of stasis, but will be done in a week or so (finally got all the parts I need to finish . . . 'the build') . . . I will report back when I get 'em installed, strung up and tuned up
I have very high hopes . . . I can't imagine they will 'suck' but will try to be as objectionable as possible
Perhaps I will get my boy (son) to record a clip with 'em . . . He's a much better player than I am (takes a real man to admit that - but isn't that the dream of every father?)
teleboli February 17th, 2009, 11:28 PM Would the Twang King be a good replacement for the neck in my road worn tele? It gets a bit muddy and blurry. I'm looking for something that is tight and snappy, warm and very clean.
