good luck!!

Thanks for your good wishes.

Here is a shot of my pal B.B. she said I could use her ferrari bandsaw
to cut the body I hesitated for 1 sec and had to go sit at the little kids table.
If I had a $3K + bandsaw I would not let any one cut with it either !
If having B.B. help me cut the body out gets me kicked off the team so be it.
You Can Not Stop me from building this no name tele.

Ok so how do I figure how to charge for paint this is less than Half of what I have.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3425.jpg?t=1235360824

Back to the build I am making the template from the T-style pattern .

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3429.jpg?t=1235361255

I cut close to the pencil line but not to close using
a cordless trim router with a flush trim bit.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3431.jpg?t=1235361358

I did Not rout the bridge because the pattern was messed up
so I have to find a way to cheat.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3433.jpg?t=1235361422

...

martino
February 22nd, 2009, 11:33 PM
The way to cheat is using a t-style guitar body and clamp my templet
to the good body using the router the way I have it set up.
I drop the bit in to the bridge pickup and that is my guide.

In the end it all came out nice like this .

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/bridgerout.jpg?t=1235363431

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3434.jpg?t=1235362450

The neck pocket is tight so I am happy about that!

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3448.jpg?t=1235362643

As you can see in this photo I am not using fancy tools.
Ok I did start out using my buddy's ferrari bandsaw!!!
and her mystical magical Festool CT Mini Dust Extractor.
That was last weekend it is raining this week end and I
am routing in the bathtub so I can control the dust . . .

Great idea on the parts martino - I may just grab one of those yet! Looks like the templates turned out nice.

martino
February 25th, 2009, 11:54 PM
Things are coming together I picked out a color Oxblood red:lol:

http://www.findcoolclothes.com/products/large_photos/skullmaskred.jpg

http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&safe=off&client=safari&rls=en&q=Oxblood%20red&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi

The routing went well used that kinda drill bit to take the workload off
the little cordless trimmer.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/_22.jpg?t=1235623617

I kept testing measuring twice so I Only cut once even checked the neck pocket on my Rat-Caster.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/_23.jpg?t=1235623816

martino
February 26th, 2009, 01:32 AM
With the routing done I have to pick a bridge.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/_141.jpg?t=1235628443

None of these will do.
the one I like has got some rust from testing circuit board etching.
Had to clamp the saddles and turn three of the screws with vicegrips
after stripping the screw heads with the cordless drill.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/_2248529.jpg?t=1235629321

Deal with saddles and screws later.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/_2248532.jpg?t=1235629764

martino
February 26th, 2009, 01:59 AM
Screw down the bridge clamp on the neck put on a just 2 strings
and see if the neck and bridge line up if they Do Not, NO point
in going on.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/_25.jpg?t=1235630057

Woo Hoo it is good!

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/_24.jpg?t=1235630483

On the front and back I am up to 150 - 220 grit
on the sides I have to use 80 grit yea !

Hay what do ya know it turned out pretty good.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/Tcontest-1.jpg?t=1235718384

These floor tiles go for 68 cents might be a good pickguard.
or a control plate.
If you warm it up you can cut it with snips or even.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/Tcontest-4.jpg?t=1235717876

After cutting a few I thought hay this could be done with
the router way faster little messy no more than making a pickguard.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/Tcontest-3.jpg?t=1235718054

Then I got full of myself and thought I will use these control plates
to make a aluminium control plate with the router
no photos of that

So here I am with the hacksaw

A little sanding and a lot of filing and I have a control plate.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/Tcontest-6.jpg?t=1236202230

Got to get some paint on this wood.
100% acrylic artist paint.
I have about 2 table spoons of black in the little cup

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3505.jpg?t=1236202487

Mix in a few oz. of hot water.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3506.jpg?t=1236202916

Brush it on with the little foam brush and wipe it off with a rag.

Sand with 220 grit and recoat.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3470.jpg?t=1236203706

I am putting more black on the sides so it is completely non transparent.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3509.jpg?t=1236204055

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3502.jpg?t=1236203936

Back to the plate just some hole drilling.

Glad to see some progress, martino! Where you going with the black finish - some clear over that semi-translucent black could be interesting!

Glad to see some progress, martino! Where you going with the black finish - some clear over that semi-translucent black could be interesting!

If the grain was nicer like yours:mrgreen::mrgreen:
then starting with gold sanding it back down wit 150 grit and going with
semi-translucent black would look sweet! Since you have all the pretty
grain,Man o man I just cant get over it so glad you took your time and did not paint it black!!!
This build I am going with oxblood red with some other stuff.
Uploading photos as we speak . . .

Wouda been cool to see him cut it with the router! Action shots! Yeah!

take an action shot !

This piece flew across the patio ur um I mean shop.

Next step go to the computer for some text and clipart.

I can generate the tex in the plotter cutter software.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/TDPRI.jpg?t=1236233792

The clip art has to be fixed in adobe illustrator must convert the
file from jpeg to ai file so the plotter see it as line art or vector file.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/dragonlogoAIfile.jpg?t=1236234425

Now we can cut it out of stencil masking .

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/dragonlogo.jpg?t=1236234562

like so.

Hard to see but it did cut.

It is all about placement.
1st I need to use tranfer tape to get it on to the guitar body.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/paint_logo-10-1.jpg?t=1236238135

Peel of the wax type paper backing.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/paint_logo-13.jpg?t=1236238977

I made a few small cuts to be able to line up the dragon to where I need
it to be.

After burnishing down the dragon I peel off the transfer tape
works like a charm!

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/paint_logo-18.jpg?t=1236239657

Great Fortune!

all part of the plan.

Before I can get most of the red off I have to put it on right?

Sanded the top & back with 220 grit.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3564.jpg?t=1236409058

Mixed up some airbrush colors to get oxblood red.

When it is warm it cuts nice when it is cold it is brittle.

this stuff does make a mess so getting less for the router to cut
should make less of a mess !

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/DSC_3583.jpg?t=1236410212

The red is dry ready to be sanded and buffed.

Aluminum don't rust so good so we will just do it with
paint.
Looks bad I know . . . but I am just getting started.
I must have 50 half used cans of spray paint that I am trying
to use up.

Got to go back to the body now I am all most done . . .
with the top
I do Not need quit as much drama or distress as the back got.

Sprayed it with clear shellac then the valspar Porcelain Crackle Glaze

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/A_top_Dis-1.jpg?t=1236914342

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/A_top_Dis-13.jpg?t=1236914738

When it is dry I hit it with just a tinny bit of gold glitter.

You can see ever brush stroke it does tone down a lot
after sanding it with 320 grit . . but still dont think it would
be good for a True "relic"!

Think I will call my style of relic ROAD-KILL in stead of
" Road Worn "

When I put it all together the pickguard is way too bright I need something
to balance it out:

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/A_top_Dis-16.jpg?t=1237102672

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/A_top_Dis-21.jpg?t=1237103411

so I start to put colors on and thinner on to build up
to look like rust.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/martino-g/100TELE/1a_final-15.jpg?t=1237103621

did not have time to photo everything today so on to
the stencil of the dragon lady.
