Riddle me this Stomp Box gurus, I have a tube screamer that works 100 percent when powered by my SKB pedal board. When I remove it from the pedal board and power it with a 9 volt it only works in the on position. No sound at all when the light is off. Any ideas or suggestions?

I'd have a peek inside and see if the battery itself, or battery wires, are touching something and shorting it.

I will do that. It is not the battery as it has done this with several. I will have a look in a little bit.

Have you tried it with a stand alone power supply?
The only thing I can see from the schematic that might cause this problem is something in the by-pass part of the flip flop circuit that might be loading down the battery too much. A DC power adapter would have enough juice to sustain it, but a battery might not.

Thanks for the reply Dawg. Can it be putting an overload on the battery in the off position? Is there a way I can test for this?
