measuring string spacing

i'm thinking of replacing these...

with this.

i'm having a hard time determining if the saddle spacing of the gotoh pictured above will match my current spacing. everything i've read about the vintage strat saddles seems to indicate a 2-7/32" spacing; the gotoh's have a 2-3/32" spacing. i tried to measure just to confirm this, but none of the measurements i've taken match any figures i've found online; where do you measure for the spacing? is it across the saddles from the edge of high E to low E, or across the screw holes in the bridge plate? saddles are a frustrating business.

I measure from the center of the bass 'E' through hole to the treble 'E' through hole.

Also, check out the Stew Mac website for some of the detailed diagrams they have there.

Use only that one standard and that may help. Using the total width of the saddles could be done I suppose but you don't wanna mix the standards up.

I'd measure the width of a single saddle on yours and compare that to the specs listed by Stewmac for those you're considering. If the Stewmac saddles are narrower you'd have a gap between them when mounted on that bridge.

my saddles measure 13/32", which is the same as the gotoh. but i think slight differences in spacing could still exist even if individual saddles seem to measure the same.

measuring string slot to string slot i get 2-7/32"; i guess a follow up question is whether it's worth replacing these vintage strat saddles, since aside from graphtechs the only fitting replacements i see are similar bent steel types. the callaham strat saddles seem like an improvement due to the longer string slot, but otherwise i don't know if i could expect any real changes... any advice on the callahams or an example of a 6 piece 2-7/32 saddle set i've missed would help a lot.

EDIT: i should say the reason i'm changing saddles in the first place is to reduce a nasty upper midrange peak that's making my ears bleed. i read bent steel type saddles emphasize those frequencies, so i'm wanting to try something else..
