imwjl January 16th, 2009, 11:59 AM Hi,
The "must know" acoustic song thread got me thinking about a "must know" electric thread. I know some acoustic bluegrass standards, few surf songs but otherwise my electric habits are terribly geared toward just playing progressions or noodling in a particular style. I think it's my having experience with public acoustic jams, taking up electric late and being dyslexic and ADD that make for my lack of discipline with whole songs on the electric.
I do know some songs but a neighbor is in two cover bands and I marvel at the sum total of 1950s through 1980s they know.
Thanks for any help (and motivation).
A few I do know and think of as far as Tele and electric playing:
Buckaroo
Stormy Monday
Walk Don't Run
octatonic January 16th, 2009, 05:09 PM Sleepwalk
Bulletproof
Drive like Lightning
Twenty Flight Rock
Hallelujah, I love her so.
(Ok, I like my rockabilly)

Hideaway
Pipeline
klasaine January 16th, 2009, 11:49 PM Johnny B. Goode. (I don't care what style you play.)
Keith Richards says, "never trust a guitarist that can't play Chuck Berry". I agree.

Good one in that Chuck Berry and electrics would be like timing Carter Family and Bluegrass with a dreadnought.
Thanks.

Off topic, but here is what Mother Maybelle played....

Another photo I found showed a big Gibson in Maybelles hands and a small all-mahogany guitar on the otehr side...Maybelles' sister or daughter?
Back on topic...
Chuck, Ventures/surf instrumental groups, Buckaroo +1,.
Further on down the road, anything you can figure out that Danny Gatton or Jerry Reed played and same thing way with REdd Volkaert.
So much music, so little time right?
