i am really debating between several amps right now. DUH@@@ look at my posts!!! i got a decent amount of GC giftcards built up from my mother (who gave me WAY WAY too much). (i did spot a lefty 620}lennon style} ric for 999- but i dont think my wife would be pleased at all if i stole 500 from our savings right now when i already have like 17 guitars)
i guess it is a matter of HYPE/ICON vs GOLD.
high wattage is not really want i am after--- i want what everyone else wants-- shapable tone.... something i can really love my single coils with and my buckers. i hate the term versitile because it means all sounds but none well!... but i also want that forgotten diamond. At first it was all ac15cc or Deluxe. then ac15 or BJ (the amp pervs). then ac15cc or cyber twin/cyber deluxe. my playing styles are really dynamic and i like to shape things very much from the sounds from a Ventures CD, to Johnny Langs first cd, SRVs sound, roxette, Def Leppard ETC/.
clean vintage sparkle for days-
rich cherry syrup thick warm clean-
tube break up dirt
tube overdrive (natural full sustain voodoo chile-crazy train opening riff)
trem for days
reverb that goes from nothing to dick dale in a monsoon.
i want to be able to tackle these sounds but yet- im not trying to have MY sound be anyone of these.... i play along with music files for about an hour or so to loosen up and free my ADD.
size of amp isnt much of a concern. it really seems like i need more than one amp, and i totally respect that......
me thinks fendery AND an AC15 will probably be the end result eventually.
current amps on the block.
Music Man 212.(fear of partial solid state and the mojo it steals lol)
Cyber twin(cyber seriese seems to be hated by traditionalists though)
cyber deluxe
blues jr (with better speaker from fender or the blue dog weber deal)
i am also trading in my ad30vt at some point for an ac15 (the ad30 is nice but i noticed something i will only reffer to as DIGITAL DECAY of the signal when quiet playing...)
im not one to spend hours in a music store because we have 2 girls (a nearly 5 year old and a 9 day old) so my time away from home other than 45-50 hours at work does not exist for the next 5 years...
also as far as modding an amp-- a speaker swap is about all i am really willing to do... even tube swapping and noodling is beyond what i am really comfortable with).
part of me wonders if i even am ready to plunge into a different amp at this point and keeping the ad30 and doing a speaker swap (but that chrome grill is just totally freaking disgusting to me that it makes me ill)
i am certainly not dislking my JCM 900 halfstack-- BUT its not practical to have in my livingroom either... even the size of a 212 combo can be tucked away neatly.
i hate to say it- a cool looking amp helps too- heckski-, the color of the guitar youre playing can have a visual feel that will mojo you into a different time/skill/style.
