Peavey Valveking Royal 8

I've been searching threads and reviews in my search for a decent 5W amp for home. The Crates are out of the question and I've narrowed it to the Champion 600, Epi Valve Jr. Combo, and the Peavey Royal 8. I'm really leaning towards the Peavey. Any comments on the Royal 8?

I'm thinking of selling my Vox AD30VT to come up with the scratch for it. I mic my amps when I play out, so 5W is plenty of spank. Should I keep the Vox and get the 5 watter or just stay content with a hybrid amp?

I tried the Royal 8 and the Champion 600 before I bought my Epi VJ combo. On paper, the Royal 8 looks good, with gain/master, tone control and headphone output. However, IMO it didn't sound good (speaker?) and I found the preamp distorsion fizzy. The champion 600 sounded better than the Royal 8, but a bit thin as compared with the Epi VJ.
The disadvantage of the Champion 600 and the Epi is that you can't dial in preamp distorsion and that they are way to loud to provide power stage distorsion at "home" volume.
But, I think you should try all of them before you buy.

the champ is real good once u get the suede junk off, it keeps most of the sound inside the amp

but for now, stick with the VOX, when you have some more cash get a pro junior or blues junior or something along those lines and keep the vox as a backup.
