Strings tighten when sitting

I have sort of an odd problem with my 2003 American Tele. At least i think it's odd. Anyway... When I play the tele or let it sit in its case the strings tighten. The E goes to an F, A to B, D to E... etc. Is there a problem with the neck? strings? Any help would be appreciated.

They're going as much as a full step sharp? If your guitar gets cold it'll sharpen a bit but A to B is pretty drastic...

Are the four neck screws all snug?

If the neck screws weren't snug, wouldn't that cause everything to flatten? Do you have a case gremlin that's turning the tuners while you sleep?

See i thought i did have a case monster or something. All the screws should be snug, i haven't fiddled around with anything on the guitar. I'm guessing knowbody knows what this is because i sure as hell dont

You know some cases, like soft cases/gig bags especially, will push the tuning machines and put you out of tune. Is there any chance that the case is pushing the machines?

Erry TELECASTER I own duz that !!

I sit them onna shelf and when I come back tew them from time tew time they ALL need tew be de-tuned a haff step er sew.

Watts goin on as near as I kin figger iss the truss rod a pullin that neck backerds when knott been played.

I haff noticed this fer years now and expect them tew haff ta be re-tuned if they been sittin fer a spell.

On the other hand, if they are played erry nite or weekend the TELECASTER iss a lot like my bass, they stay in tune.

I could be rong and prolly am but thats my story and I'm s-s-s-stickin tew witt.

My '03 Am Tele does the same thing, but mainly it's only the G that goes that far . . . the rest just somewhat.

I wonder . . . is it a maple neck??? Mine is.

Mine is just a bear to tune anytime . . . sometimes it takes 30 seconds, and sometimes I screw with it for 15 minutes. However, when I use one particular brand of strings, it's easy to tune and stays in tune. It's when I switch that I have the problem. I'm now ordering strings by-the-case because of the tuning issue!
