Sidney Vicious December 3rd, 2008, 11:48 PM I was debating pulling the trigger on it but thought that shipping was a little high - and man I hate to get hosed on shipping. Guess I'll have to keep looking for another $5.00 Quad Reverb . . . . I'm sure another will turn up.

Tim Armstrong December 4th, 2008, 04:15 AM So, do you think he meant to put the "Buy It Now" at $500 instead?
Ya know, the shipping probaby WAS insane!

holgaguy December 4th, 2008, 07:09 AM It looks like someone bought it for $5 with a $99 shipping fee. Oh my.
Probably wicked loud.
Sidney Vicious December 4th, 2008, 07:57 AM To be clear - when I found the ad the sale was already completed.
My guess is the buyer and the seller worked out a deal as the seller has been around and I don't think would make that mistake.
For $5 I would have bought that monster and happily paid the shipping just so I could marvel at that monster - plugging it in would be another matter all together.
marshman December 4th, 2008, 09:22 AM Seriously, though...a 100 watt SF fender, with 'verb, in a 4x12 cab, and you reckon $100 is too much for shipping? Fudge, I've seen guys selling teles in hard cases that want $35 to ship, and that amp has got to weigh a ton.
I'd probably turn it into a bass head, bwuuwahahah.
Twangthang December 4th, 2008, 09:23 AM I looked in the seller's ebay store and he has the same amp for sale... same description, but it is at $410 w/ 2 bids

No - not seriously - I thought that was clear in the text - but acknowledge I should have included a few of these->
I'll be more careful next time.
holgaguy December 4th, 2008, 12:37 PM I saw a blues player in Chicago a few years ago playing through one of these. He had a '52 Tele Reissue. The sound was awesome.
Tele Fan December 4th, 2008, 12:44 PM The guy who introduced me to the guitar played through one of those. I think it's still in the back of the church.
ThermionicScott December 5th, 2008, 02:23 AM Damn, I miss all the insane deals. The $5 starting bid is in the text too, so he meant it... eBay is at it's best when the starting bids are low, IMO.

marshman December 5th, 2008, 12:01 PM I've never sold anything on ebay, but I thought I'd read that the fee you'll eventually be charged is related to the starting bid...so staring it low can decrease your fees at the sale, but you run the risk of forking over something really valuable for a lot less than it's worth...that sound about right, or did I get something wrong?
As for low starting bids, yeah, it just seems silly to list something at what is for all intents and purposes a list price (or worse) as it just obliviates the point. Nuthin' sez "Sweet Deal" like seein' a 2006 MIM tele on the bay for $389, is there?
dqami December 5th, 2008, 06:48 PM If you charge a high shipping fee then the auction price will end up less in which case the seller pays less to Ebay in fees. Paypal will still get their 3% though.
hiero December 6th, 2008, 07:20 AM This was simply meant to drive you to his store and pick up the sale from there - as previously stated, at $410 with 2 bids and 4 days to run and still $99 shipping... now not such a potential cheap deal... remember too, these are bloody heavy and LOUD!
spankdplank December 8th, 2008, 05:51 PM Twenty years ago I played in band with a guy that had one of those and could never figure why you would want a Quad over a Twin. It was basically a 100 watt silverface twin with four speakers. It didn't seem any louder or sound any better than my 100 watt 1970 twin, but it was heavier and MUCH harder to load in and out of the trunk of a car. I used to see Albert Collins playing in the clubs with one of those just cranked. He made it sound good, but it still sounded like a cranked twin to me
T_red7882 December 8th, 2008, 06:22 PM It would be kinda fun to have though.
