One Super Champ XD vs. Another ?

I've tried some Super Champ XD's at GC which sound great and others which really seem to have no tone or good feel. Is it really possible for different models of the same amp to sound so much different?

I've played a fairly large number of SCXD and (imho) they all sound (relatively) the same.

I think your playing surroundings are making more of a perceptible difference
then any actual audible differences in the amp.

Over the years (way too many to count ) I've owned many Fender amps from 50's to the present.... alot of them before they were "collectable" and way overpriced, I know there are many conflicting opinions on this amp, but...I believe taking into consideration all the contributing factors - that this is one of the best amps Fender has ever released and in years to come may even become "collectable".

I just bought one and I think it sounds great, especially at that price. I'm hoping they will come out with a larger, louder version, maybe a Vibroverb XD.

Didn't they already do a Cyber Twin?

I've heard many people say that it's great and many others on Ebay selling after a half hour of playing time. I might buy one to check it out. It's not a huge investmet.

Anyone interested in an original SC in mint condition? I have one I'm thinking about selling.

The Cyber Twin was all solid state.

The Cyber Twin was all solid state.

The Cyber Twin uses two 12AX7's in the preamp.

I had no idea. Still, a larger SCXD type amp with real output tubes would be killer. I'd buy one!!

I modded one of my SCXDs to run 5881/6L6GBs, and it puts out 25 watts at 5 percent THD and 30 watts at 10 percent. It's not all that much louder. The difference is in the solid bass tones and overall crispness from the larger plates and beefed-up power supply.

I think you'd have to go to the full 40 watts/6L6GC kind of output stage and a 12-inch speaker before you heard a meaningful difference in loudness. Frankly, I'd much rather see Fender put the effort into layered effects, especially separating reverb/delay from tremolo/vibratone.
