I am considering purchasing a Squier Custom with humbuckers. Does anyone have one? Are the humbuckers standard size or the Wide Range Size ( they look to be standard by the pictures )? Thanks, Dale.

Squier Customs - Standard or Widerange Humbuckers?castpolymer November 24th, 2008, 10:28 AM I am considering purchasing a Squier Custom with humbuckers. Does anyone have one? Thanks, Dale. boris bubbanov November 24th, 2008, 11:09 AM They're standard size, and which ones is a question. That's because until recently these models were made by Cortek in Surabaya, now this "Vintage Modified" model is made in China. But the pickups could somehow be the same, always possible. Maybe you could find a couple bridge humbuckers from some Squier 51s. A lot of guys take them out; I feel they are mistaken doing that but those pups are out there if you wanna try a "Wanted to Buy" ad here. Check out the P-90'd version of that guitar, also, preferably a used Indonesian one. reverend November 24th, 2008, 11:09 AM They are standard size humbuckers. Teleholder November 24th, 2008, 11:23 AM I have a Squier Custom and have been considering modding it with Widerange humbuckers. I'm thinking I'd just have to cut the pickguard, drill some new holes, and maybe rout the body a bit? Anyone done this already? Any thoughts? yegbert November 24th, 2008, 01:36 PM They're standard size, and which ones is a question. Check out the P-90'd version of that guitar, also, preferably a used Indonesian one. Have you actually seen and tried one of these that was made in China? And if so, was there any specific deficiencies in the quality of the one made in China? I know there was a thread here recently where some other folks' posts seemed to imply some were made in China, but the post that implied that was referring to a different Squier model, not a Vintage Modified Custom or Vintage Modified Custom II. boris bubbanov November 24th, 2008, 02:20 PM The guitar doesn't have to the deficient if it is made in mainland China. I just don't buy it. I'm happy to defer to others but I have been corrected at least once a few months' back for suggesting that these VMs were still made in Indonesia. As for whether I've seen them in person or in pictures since then I don't even remember, honestly, except that I would make note if I saw any evidence they still made them anywhere but China. I preferred the Standards and Fat Teles and 51s for build quality, modability and playability anyway. |
