Old Amp Recognition

I recently purchased an old amp from a non-player. He said it had been sitting in his closet since 1972. I am trying to find out more about it.
It is built to scale as a Fender Twin copy but made of cheaper wood. All it says on it is :"Twin Reverb Amp" "LH Musical Instruments"
It has two channels , Reverb , and Tremelo.
I was told that it is probably an old Teisco copy. It looks just like an old Blackface Twin other than the Grill is sort of a checkered black and silver. It bosts a pair of Alinco 12.5 Watt speakers. It has 4 6V6gt tubes {GE dated 1959} , 2 12AT7's and 4 12AX7's. I have put all NOS Sylvania tubes in it and the sound is unbelievable. Just wondering if anyone could help with Identifying what I have..Thanks

There were a lot of clones made in the Philippines back during the Vietnam War. I saw a really funny one in the Colorado Music Exchange in Colorado Springs a few years ago, it was a tube amp in a Fender Solid-State Showman-clone head. Which means it was probably a much better amp than what it was pretending to be!

Cheers, Tim

Welcome, AXer...
IT appears that the reverb is hard-wired and that there are no jacks for footswitches for the reverb and tremolo, right? An examination of the components would probably prove that tim is on the right track.

I was told by a fender tech that Teisco made alot of amps for music stores in the 60's and that the "LH Musical Instruments" could be the name of the music store that ordered it originally. By the way , you are right the reverb and tremelo are hard wired , but it has a hard wired footswitch which controls both.
I may never know what it is , but I can tell you it is one of the hottest little amps I've ever owned. I have been playin for about 30 years and the only thing I've owned that came close to this was my old 60's princeton.
Thanks for the replies.

I'm sure that what you have there is an Elk amp, made by Miyuki Ind. Co. of Japan in the late 60's or early 70's.

There is little info on the web, but have a google at what there is. Dr. Tube probably has the most info: http://www.drtube.com/guitamp.htm#Elk

I emailed Dr, Tube and he said it doesn't look european so he hasn't a clue.
I may never find out exactly what this amp is because there were so many Asian knockoffs made in the 60's , but it sure sound good. I also have a 1978 Fender Super Twin reverb and , as far as tone this little amp beats it hands down.
