Strat pup on an acoustic?

I posted this over on acoustic forum, but I think this might be a better place.

I had to go visit my ailing grandpa in Illinois, and while he was resting, I thought I'd check out the local music stores. The first two pretty much sucked, and they both directed me to Mike's . At Mikes I spotted one of those rare black label fender strat and an Acoustic Fender DG-5. Now this acoustic wasn't anything special, but it was only 50$ because it had a broken saddle and split nut. I purchased this guitar because it was going to be my "beater-campfire" guitar.

I got it home and fitted her with a brass saddle that I made. It sounded better. Then the nut split completely in half, so I made a nut from the same 1/4" brass flat bar I formed the saddle from. The guitar sounded better. I went to the music store and bought some gotoh tuners, and the guitar tuned up and stayed in tune better.

This is now officially my "project" guitar. I am going to redu the brass nut, and actually put some real effort into fashioning it. Im going to add a spare strat pup I picked up for 10$.

Here's my question. I have a strat pup, a volume pot, and jack, how do I wire this sucker so that it will work? Im going to fashion a bracket to fix the pup to, and switch to EB power slinkys so the strat pup will work.

I would mount the strat pickup almost flush with the neck, cutting a hole in the top to do so, a-la the Lennon epi/gibby sig. acoustic/electric. Less chance for feedback with a more solid mount. Although you could mount it in a bracket in the sound-hole I guess.. All of the sound-waves exiting the hole right around the pickup might make for some feedback issues though...
As for the electronics... If you can reach your hand in the soundole far enough, I would mount the volume/tone controls in to holes right through the top, on the lower bout where ever is easiest for you to reach when playing. Mount the jack through the side near the lowest part of the lower bout. You might want to reinforce the inside or outside of the hole with a square curved plastic import les-paul type jackplate, although I've never found it necessary...

I've done this conversion to 5 different 1950s parlor type guitars with great results.. I tend to skip the volume and tone controls, however... I use a volume pedal when necessary and skip the tone knob..

Also, you might want to try EB 'not even slinky' strings.. Suprisingly, regular acoustic strings will work out alright because most of them have steel cores..

Thanks for the suggestion Mark, but the location you suggested for the pickup has a brace right in the way, and I do not feel comfortable removing a section from the brace. I am going to mount the pup as close to the neck as possible. I have two choices for my bracket, either brass or maple. Which do you think would make the best choice? Also, I have a 250 k pot that has three posts to solder too. What is the best way to tell which is hot, ground, and negative?

Okay, after reevaluating and measuring, I think your idea is going to work after all. Sorry I ever doubted you.
I took my dremel and routed a nice nook for the pickup. Now I just need to figure out how to wire my pickup to the volume pot and the volume pot to the jack.
