What Should I get,Strat or TeleRockandRollStar October 1st, 2008, 05:57 PM Already posted this on the Tele forum.Basically,I'm getting my first electric guitar and want some avice as to wether I should get a Strat or Tele (mexican standard). Old Cane October 1st, 2008, 06:55 PM That's really gonna have to be up to you. If I could only have one it would be a strat......or telecaster. After playing a strat fro 35 years I now have several of each and I pick one up and think, yeah, I'm just gonna play this X (insert either guitar name). Then I pick up another, rinse, repeat. fenderguy October 1st, 2008, 07:03 PM Same here actually one of each would be idea.. But if i could only have one it would be my 62 ri. with mcvay g bender.. I would be lost without it... BritishBluesBoy October 1st, 2008, 07:07 PM Try a bunch and buy the one you like best. adifferentbreed October 1st, 2008, 07:25 PM At todays prices and the quality of some of the cheap guitars, buy one of each and sell the one you don't like. I have an '02 MIM Tele and a SQuire Strat (Affinity series), can't imagine not having either one. skyhawk October 1st, 2008, 07:50 PM How much is the Strat Standard there in the UK, street price? Since you live in the UK, I would look at the Vintage V6 Series V6LB. Very well constructed Stratocaster copy with Wilkinson hardware and decent pickups in a very nice Daphne Blue type color (jhs.co.uk for info). Once you have a chance to play a Strat type guitar, you may decide you want a Tele, LP, archtop, acoustic or whatever. It'll be easier to sell the V6 without taking a huge loss or you can just keep the V6 since it's a good cheap guitar at only 130 pounds brand new street price. Too bad they're unavailable in the U.S. Flat357 October 1st, 2008, 09:02 PM If it's your first guitar , I personally think a strat type guitar would be more suitable . I wouldn't recommend getting a Fender necessarily though in either case . There are some great stuff out there from lots of suppliers . Afterall , both are traditionally copied models , and great gear can be found on a budget nowadays . Shadowrunner October 1st, 2008, 11:47 PM i'd get the Strat. i have a Strat, they're all i ever owned. i've played Teles too, but never owned one. thekillingjoke October 2nd, 2008, 12:18 AM It's really up to you which one you get. You need to play a bunch of each kind and see whether you're more of a Strat man or a Tele man. Doug Ferguson October 2nd, 2008, 10:04 AM My guess is, that regardless of which you buy, you'll wind up getting the other. Strat's and Tele's aren't the same beast. Each does different things. Generalizations: A strat is tonally "warmer" than a tele, less bite, less bright. It also has two additional tones -- the "quack" tones, which may or may not groove you. Both have distinctive "Fender" tones, but they aren't the same tones. Your choice will mainly come down to the music you play most and which guitar fits it best. Like BBB says, try a bunch of each and see which sounds best. And keep your eye out for good deals on used ones. Maybe you'll be able to get both! Mid Life Crisis October 2nd, 2008, 11:45 AM What kind of music are you into? If you want to play something rockier and ballsier I'd say get a Tele. It also happens to be about the trendiest guitar in the Cosmos at the moment. If you are after something for a cleaner range of sounds, a bit funkier perhaps, I'd say go for a Strat. Jimo October 2nd, 2008, 11:59 AM I would start with a tele because you don't have to dink around with the tremolo ..... dagenhamjim October 2nd, 2008, 03:52 PM Hi I posted a reply to your question on theTele forum and would like to add if you go for a Strat then give the excellent value for money MIM Roadhouse Strat a test drive (see Link below) I tried one the other week and was very impressed with the build quality, finish and the sound from the "hot" Texas special pick ups! http://www.dv247.com/invt/46344/product.htm?gdftrk=gdfV2356_a_7c416_a_7c1181_a_7c4 6344 dagenhamjim October 2nd, 2008, 04:00 PM How much is the Strat Standard there in the UK, street price? Here in the Uk they vary from shop to shop or mail order company to mail order company but on average a MIA Strat Standard retails for £700.00 which is roughly $1260 bucks! A MIA Telecaster standard is the same price! dokter B. October 3rd, 2008, 03:04 AM I'd get a 60 classic player . Enough guitar for the rest of your life, reaonable price .I think the 60 strats are the do it all guitars. skyhawk October 3rd, 2008, 11:13 AM Hi I posted a reply to your question on theTele forum and would like to add if you go for a Strat then give the excellent value for money MIM Roadhouse Strat a test drive (see Link below) I tried one the other week and was very impressed with the build quality, finish and the sound from the "hot" Texas special pick ups! http://www.dv247.com/invt/46344/product.htm?gdftrk=gdfV2356_a_7c416_a_7c1181_a_7c4 6344 +1 I was surprised the Roadhouse is so good. Quite the sleeper. I agree with Jim that it's very well finished, I like the neck, and great pickups. |
