Does my pickup work?

Hey guys help me out here. So far all of the used pickups I have bought from ebay I have checked with an ohm meter to determine it works. I just got a tele pickup and it will not read anything on the ohm meter however if I touch the wires to a guitar cable and turn the amp on I do hear noises when I tap the pickup with a screw driver. What is a good way without actually installing the pickup to ensure ir works correctly? Am I correct to think this one just isn't right?

If there is no reading, it would suggest that there is a break in the winding. Apparently you can still get some "sounds" out of a dead pickup, but I'm sure one of our pickup experts will be able to tell you more.

Thanks guys I was thinking maybe the winding was broken, it's probably pretty close to the leads but I'm not sure if I want to mess with it and try to unwind a few turns and re-attatch, or just send it back. It was used but I got it fairly cheap too...
