I just picked up a nice 50's MIM strat body on the bay for a build project. I'm starting with the bridge/tremelo and was looking for some recommendations. I know the bridge and block factors heavely into the tone equation so I was thinking about a MIA RI or maybe a CG. I'm also not 100% sure the specs are the same?
Any suggestions would be great.

If I were you I'd go with a Callaham. I have two Strats - Callaham bridge and block in each of them and I wouldn't have anything else... His Vintage Style bridge will drop right in that body...

How does the CG compare to the Fender Vintage MIA bridge as far as tone goes. I seldom use a trem so, I'm more concerned about tone.

I ordinarily do just a bit of shimmer; the plate is normally very close to the top of the body. And I find the sound much better, definitely a more desirable mod on a MIM, MIM Classic, Highway One, Am Dlx, Am Std. It is a closer call on an AV guitar, a Jimmie Vaughan, a G + L, and an Eric Johnson setup or Chimemaster is also good, just different.

I replaced the bridge on a MIJ 57 RI with a Callaham and was shocked at the difference in quality of materials. It's hard to say how much of that translated to tone because I swapped pickups at the same time, but the Callaham is much more solid.
