ajgus September 2nd, 2008, 03:17 PM Hey,
Can someone please tell me how to hook my bridge pickup to the bottom tone control on my Strat? I'm sure this has been covered, so perhaps someone could direct me to a previous thread regarding this topic.
Note: I'm a guitarist not an electrician, so diagrams are kinda lost on me . Thanks in advance!
Jamie.
ajgus September 2nd, 2008, 04:17 PM Well, to answer my own question...is it just as easy as adding a "jumper" to the switch as shown in this schematic?

stratomaster September 2nd, 2008, 08:42 PM Yes, thats a pretty easy mod that in my opinon is a must do.
mijstrat72 September 2nd, 2008, 09:55 PM I actually prefer leaving the middle pup toneless by just moving the whole tone wire to the bridge lug.
It really opens up the quack positions, essentially losing alot of the tonal by product of the mixing the pups.
Try it...it's fun!
Del Pickup September 3rd, 2008, 01:55 AM I did this to my MIM strat when I installed Fat 50's a few years ago. I'd never change it now. The bridge pup is so much more useable than it was before.
chrispscott September 3rd, 2008, 02:12 AM I was wondering the same thing however I've got the 5-way switch from GFS that has all the lugs inline. How would you do it with this switch?

ajgus September 3rd, 2008, 10:23 AM Yeah, Thought about just running the wire from the middle position straight to the bridge, but I don't want to lose any current capabilities. I just want to quell the ice pick in the bridge position. I think, at least in a clean setting, Strat bridge pups are pretty much unusable with out this mod. Thanks for the replys.
Chris, I'm not familiar with that switch. Its kinda cool. I would think its just a matter of figuring which lug corresponds with that of a typical 5 way & hooking it up accordingly.

I was hoping that someone else would have figured it out already but no dice. It was not hard to figure out though once I used my amazing power of deductive reasoning (or in this case it was "well this lug does not have anything on it and it's right next to the middle tone lug sooooooo" and I just got lucky.)
ajgus September 3rd, 2008, 11:22 AM Good deal, Chris. I'll probably try the mod out tonight. Sucks though, I just swapped my pickguard the other day. Should've done it then. We all know what a b**ch it is pulling apart a Strat...not as simple as a Tele. Oh well...looking forward to the results anyway.

That just sounds like a must try to me...
AnthemBassMan September 3rd, 2008, 06:18 PM -Oh yeah! The mid p'up wide open on a Strat is my favorite one! You get the best of both worlds. A little brightness of the bridge and some of the tubbiness of the neck in one sweet package. You definitely have to try it out.

Telarkaster September 3rd, 2008, 09:27 PM Another reason why I love this site. I was just thinking about doing the same thing, but didn't get around to doing a search on the subject.
Thanks ajgus, I really appreciate it!
My soldering iron will get another workout in the very near future...
ajgus September 3rd, 2008, 11:07 PM So funny story...
I heated up my iron, popped off my pickguard & noticed (something I hadn't noticed before) that my switch is the same one that chrispscott showed above. Now, I lack the powers of deductive reasoning that Chris has...so Chris can you (or any one else) please tell me which lug(s) need(s) the jumper wires to accomplish this mod.
With the most humble of thanks,
Jamie.
ajgus September 3rd, 2008, 11:11 PM But actually...I just re-read your last post & I think I'll try what you did. Guys, please say a prayer so that I don't completely f*** up my new Strat. I've said it before & I'll say it again...I'm a guitarist, not an electrician
Update: Yeah...someone please help....
