My 1974X - IT'S BACK!!!

I got an excellent deal on a Marshall 1974X. Incredible actually. I played it for about 8 months and enjoyed it greatly. I already knew that it had the original transformer and they have a reputation of blowing out. But the deal was too good to pass up.

About a month ago, it happened. No sound. It kept blowing the Mains fuses. So I took it to my local repair tech and asked him to order a Mercury Magnetics (he confirmed it was the transformer).

I just got the amp back today. Even with the cost of the new iron and his labor, I still have a good deal.

But here's the greatest part, the amp sounds more responsive than before. I noticed it right off the bat. I am always skeptical about the bigger iron claims. But I can hear the difference. It is not night and day, mind you. But it is up a notch.

Very pleased with this amp all over again.

I'd really dig hearing you play through that amp. You're a fine player, Reverbbb.

I just bought a used 1974x that already has the Mercury Mags OT upgrade. I can't wait to take delivery.

Can you get good overdrive tones at home volumes without any pedals?

I got the Ceriatone 1974xTMB and haven't looked at another Amp on Ebay since it arrived. And all I've been playing through Her is the new/used 60's Classic Tele and my SG Classic with P90's. Every TONE I ever heard during The 60's - no pedals.
Bears repeating; no pedals.
