2 silly pot questions

1) I have 2 pots, both 250k. One is linear , one is audio taper. I will be replacing both volume and tone. I can't figure out which I should use for which, and what the overall effects would be. I think I've only ever used audio taper before.
2)the pots have a smooth shaft, but I can't tell what kind of knobs will work (non-set-screw, which is what I currently have on my tele), I'm hoping to use the same knobs.

You want audio taper pots IMHO. And I belive you'll be fine on Tele knobs on solid shaft pots but don't hold me to it.

Yeah, you can get the CTS AT pots for about $5 each in solid shaft.

Use the audio taper pot for volume and the linear for tone.

You will need set-screw knobs for solid shafts, so you have a choice of new pots of new knobs at this point.
