MIA Strat vs. JV Sig Strat

Would I be crazy to sell my ’96 MIA Standard Strat so that I could buy a new Jimmie Vaughan Strat? I bought the MIA in the spring and just haven’t enjoyed playing it that much. I recently had it professionally setup and restrung with DR 9’s in an effort to see if I could connect with it, but I just haven’t. I have played several JV's and have liked the way they played compared to the MIA.

I just bought a new BDRI and wouldn’t dare try to keep the MIA and get the JV. It wouldn’t be very comfortable sleeping in my car with all that gear (LOL!!).

If your not happy with what you have, then get something your happy with. I have a heavily upgraded Epi Dot that I haven't been able to bond with for over a year now and I've been debating getting rid of it. I just don't think I'd get what I have in it if I tried to resell. The market is tough right now.

My dream guitar is a American Strat, but my MIJ is doing very nicely for right now.

the JV might as well be a MIA for all the high end American made parts
on it ....the neck is the real treat ...I'm hooked on mine...do it man
you won't be disapointed...

with the money you have left over you can send me a consulting fee..

The Jimmy Vaughan has the exact same hardware the 57/62 AV ri Strats that cost $1400 have.

To me its way way better than an American Standard.

Check out the flames in this one.

nice one Mark....the JV's are the best kept secret out there....I think people see MIM and asume the worst...

When I first got my JV it was only $480 new.

They have gone up quite a bit since then still a great deal.

Personally I wouldn't think twice about this, its a no brainer... the JV is definitely a better guitar.

In my opinion, the MIA Strats just don't cut it if you want that vintage vibe with modern upgrades.

For some reason all the MIA Strats include hardware that is completely non-interchangeable with vintage hardware.... tuners, bridge, etc. In my opinion, the original vintage Strat tremolo was flawless... replacing it with a two point fulcrum tremolo has been Fender's biggest mistake and one that thankfully none of the "off-shore" builders copy. While the new style tuners and rolling string trees may have their advantages, you just can't beat the tried and true vintage hardware.

That's why any Strat or Tele I ever buy will be MIA Vintage, MIM or CIJ.

Of course those new Squier Classic Vibes aint to shaby either

As the 60th (2006) button suggests, MSN7 does not necessarily mean 2007. But mine has no 60th button and the pickguard still says mid 2006.

Wonderful guitars. An especially good choice for those with no facilities or inclination to do a lot of tinkering on your guitar. The only thing I see as mandatory upgrade is a set of 6 Callaham hardened trem mount screws, child's play to install. Eight Dollars.

do it! you said it yourself that ya don't care for the Am Std and new or used
the Jimmie Vaughan Strat is a heck of a guitar.

I loved my first one so much that I picked up another.. and then I scored
a JV neck off eBay and mated it with a nice red Strat body and a gold
anodized aluminum PG and the pickups of my own choice.

a happy man, that's me.

Thanks for the responses! I kind of expected people to think I had gone off the deep end. I already passed up two chances for nice JVs trying to find one that I thought would be "the one." It's a nice looking guitar (Sonic Blue with a rosewood fretboard) but I just haven't bonded with it.

On the signatire models the serial doesnt mean much. Ive seen MSN5 MSN6 is what most of them are and MSN7.

Here is the lowest serial # Ive seen.

The first 500 of these made came with JV's sig on a Fender polish cloth. Those are rare. The earilest ones also had a real hard V neck which changed into a softer V as they made more of them. You can easily see the V in this pic.

Yeah. Get the JV strat. Why keep a strat you're not happy with?

This thread is making me depressed because I sold my JV Strat last year.

Well, I've decided to keep my MIA Strat for now. I found a picture of one that looks exactly like it and made it my desktop wallapaper on my PC at work so that I have to look at it every day. I really like the way it looks, I'm just not making "the" connection with it.

Here is what it looks like:

Maybe Santa Claus will be good to me this year and I can get a JV for Christmas.

All this reminderin' of how fine the Jimmie Vaughan is, I just doubled up:

$ 20 shipping from Wisconsin in the padded gig bag. $ 450 is less than I paid for my first but this one is said to be in remarkably nice condition also.

I think the color is like this:

No you would not be crazy, JV's are great strats.

The Oly white on a Jimmie Vaughan is actually more like this:

Either way, very handsome guitar, beautiful color. This era Jimmie Vaughan is not veneer in a solid color. These are real Gotoh Klusons, and a real AV bridge assembly.

I know and I have passed up buying three JV's with cash in hand while trying to find the right Strat. I don't what I was thinking. It has been under my nose the whole time.

Unlikely and yet possible that none of those 3 were the "right" one. I do kinda have my fingers crossed; I'm hoping on this 2nd one from Dave's, based on what I was told about the previous owner (wanted an LP, unhappy with Strats in general) that he traded in a real sweet guitar and just did not know what he had.

I hadn't really thought of it that way, thanks. And good luck on JV #2!

Here's mine:

Great guitar. Only thing I've changed is dropping a Seymour Duncan JB Jr. into the bridge. I tend to use only the neck and middle pups on Strats so it gives me some more versatility.
