Charlie Bernstein July 29th, 2008, 01:02 PM I was fooling around with DGDGGD tuning last night and this morning, and it was a lot of fun. Ever try it? Know of any interesting artists who use it? Reminded me of Incredible String Band or John Renbourn...

Wow, two of my favorites. (Though I wouldn't think of them as being related music-wise.)
I'll have to check out that tuning, thanks.

Try CGCGCE as well.

Well, they're not Malmstein! I think of them both as acoustic porch-picking with a British accent. I have a CD of John Renbourn of Pentangle and Robin Williamson of the Incredible String Band playing a duet concert in Saint Louis during that big flood a few years ago. It's called Wheel of Fortune. Hot stuff!
Anyhow, one of them says, "We thought about calling ourselves the Incredible String Tangle."

I've really just found this tuning. Fool around with it and I'm sure you'll find plenty. But it really is droney - makes the guitar sound more like a dulcimer. Or a sitar. There's no major or minor, which gives it (I think) a Beowulf/Ivanhoe/Druids-in-bearskins feeling.

Kule. I will - thanks!

I'm a huge Pentangle and ISB fan from way back.
I never got to see ISB but I saw Robin about the time Journey's Edge came out. He and his band were awesome.
PS: I've also seen him solo a couple of times and it was mixed. Some great stuff mixed in with some boring long folk tales.
Wish Likky would come out of hiding.

=O.

Yup. Stephen Stills does.
Why don't you give him a ring? I'm sure he'll tell you....
