eddie27 July 21st, 2008, 12:45 PM I am looking at Strats with a 12" radius - so the Classic Player is on my radar. I was at a shop the other day that had none in stock, but the owner told me that he had seen tuning and tremolo problems with them and didn't recommend them. Of course, like I said, he had none in stock. It's a good shop though.
So any of you Classic Player owners out there - have you had any problems with tuning or the trem?
boris bubbanov July 21st, 2008, 02:27 PM I prefer the 6 screw vintage style trem, which can be very nicely upgraded.
But I confess my bias against the CP Strat is basically aesthetics; I wouldn't recommend one over a MIM Jimmie Vaughan but I fully understand why some people really like their CPs.
It is not IMO a case of black and white. It is still a very nice guitar.
Doug Ferguson July 21st, 2008, 02:47 PM Don't have a CP, but the one's I've tried seem stable. However, as boris says, I'd probably go with a Jimmie Vaughn, or even a Deluxe Players. Well, I DID go with a DP as a matter of fact, and really like it.
Mark Davis July 21st, 2008, 02:56 PM Any Strat that has good tuners can be made stable its all in the setup.
I will also chime in and say I much prefer the 6 screw trem over the 2 point trem.
DHHZ July 22nd, 2008, 12:49 PM I have the CP 50's strat. When I first got it the tuning wasn't very stable, but after lubricating the nut slots and string tree (with a mix of graphite and vaseline), it seemed to get better.

Axis29 July 22nd, 2008, 05:22 PM I picked up a CP 50's on clearance... it was perfect tuning wise right off the rack.
Most new guitars off the rack need some form of nut work done, especially if they have a talent bar. However, mine did not.
The locking tuners that came installed were fine as frog's hair and worked quite well at keeping my guitar in tune, even with the trem floating nicely off the body. It's the first Strat I've had that's been this stable actually. I've had them work well with mild to medium trem usage, but I can divebomb mine without fear.
I cna say nothing but happy things about my CP.
Lance has a CP60's and he is quite fond of his. I know he droppe din a Callaham bridg erather quickly after purchase, but it was not due to tuning issues. More about hype of tone issues. He is bringing it over to the house otnight in fact, I'll ask him about it and make sure I am not spreading eroneous good remarks!
VWAmTele July 22nd, 2008, 08:44 PM Absolutely no problems with mine. FWIW I keep my vibrato bar decked and my style involves a lot of heavy bending - never goes out of tune. Very stable tuning. Best Strat for the $ IMHO.
superchicken_VI July 23rd, 2008, 09:24 AM The other guy in my blues band has one, with zero tuning issues.
fenderiarhs July 23rd, 2008, 12:56 PM My CP60 is the most stable of all the strats i've ever had (and i've owned many)....perfect tuning stability straight from the factory......and even though i like the 6 point vintage tremolo the two point one on the CP60 has a better and more precise feeling
beep.click July 25th, 2008, 03:52 AM My Strat tuning and tremolo problems always go away when I put a little Ivory soap in the nut slots (I rub a bar of the dry soap across the nut, when I change strings).
I read about that many years ago, and it has become standard practice for all my guitars. The word is, it HAS to be Ivory soap, though (something about chemicals/additives in other brands). I haven't felt a need to experiment with anything else, this works so well.
rasomaso July 25th, 2008, 04:45 AM Is it possible to use regular pencil for that? I read about it somewhere...
beep.click July 25th, 2008, 09:47 PM I tried pencil before I heard about the Ivory. The pencil did basically nothing for me; the Ivory makes a big difference.
Axis29 July 26th, 2008, 09:06 AM I use a No. 2 pencil... But I also make sure the nut slots are the right size first.
Working the nut slots did a world of good for my previous strat (an Affinity that played pretty darn good for a super cheap guitar!).
My CP 50 gets a little graphite every time I change strings just for good measure.
Scotland July 26th, 2008, 10:03 AM My CP 60's gives me no tuning problems whatsoever. Most Strat tuning problems occur because the guitar is not set up properly.
timlaine July 27th, 2008, 07:25 PM No problems with my GP60. The BEST strat I've ever owned. I agree proper set-up is key.
FredDairy July 27th, 2008, 09:14 PM I'll echo the proper set up Strat makes up the biggest difference. I just had my 60s Classic's frets dressed and nut slots worked on. This guitar now playes better than any American Reissue off the shelf... I'm talking custom shop smooth feeling and playing.
beat_route36 August 5th, 2008, 05:11 PM I would say the only problem Ive had with my CP60 is the springs on the saddles are tiny and pointless and the saddles tend to move about when divebombing and such. I've locked mine to the body now but I guess I'd only need to buy better springs.
And Yes it is an awesome strat I highly recommend it =]
