Question about censorship.

I posted a reply about blues jams, and used a word that was deleted. I have seen 2 posts in the last couple weeks that mentioned "wife beaters" (shirts), and "retards"(not the 'slowing tempo' definition). This may have been corrected since, I'm not sure(if so, I retract this post, and duly apologize). I just want to be sure about the rules, and not step on anyones toes. I know you guys that moderate things here have a hard job, and I do appreciate your effort. I just don't understand what the difference between the word I used, and these other non PC statements. I was going to post a reply when I saw the reply where someone claimed they were a "retard", but decided that it's not up to me to moderate. Anyone here knows that I'm not an argumentative type, or someone who tries to start issues, by far, but I do have a family member with a severe mental handicap, and found it very distasteful to post a statement like that, but it got through. Just want to be clear! I will follow the rules that we ALL have to follow.

The site uses a word recognition system that replaces listed words with other text, it generally just filters out common swear words.

If you feel someone has posted something offensive, don't hesitate to hit the report button (the little red triangle in the bottom left of that person's post), and let us know the issue.

Bendecaster-I am sorry that you were offended. That has, to me, been one of the great things about this forum. It is one of the few places on the internet where discussion can take place without fear of vile insults and slander. I used the term "wife-beater" in one of my posts to refer to the t-shirt that Tim McGraw wears on stage merely to refer to his efforts in appealing to the thugs that seem to permeate his concerts. If I offended you in any way, I sincerely apologize, it truly was not my intent.
I also work in the field with kids with EBD, and learning disabilities, so I too, find the term "retard" to be offensive.
But to be honest, I take the source into consideration and realize that these people have their own problems to deal with.
I am not a mod here. But IMHO I think sometimes they are a little "anxious" to jump on things that really don't need to be addressed. But, again, just MHO.

Thanks guy's.
J-man, I appreciate clearing that up!

Gary, Thank you too! I did understand what you were referring to, and it didn't bother, or offend me( I don't resemble the remark ). I was just using it as a reference about PC statements. Believe me, I'm no angel! By the way, I did get a kick out of that "Tim McGraw" post ;)

Also, you need to be aware that the TDPRI has 4 mods and me. There are 2,000 posts a day. No one Mod reads more than about 40 or so a day. Many we overlap on.

The auto word censor worked, no doubt, on yours. Or someone got lucky and saw it and edited it. You can tell it's the auto word censor when it replaces the entire word with *****.

Along with that, the examples you point out are gray areas. There is no rule that you can't post about wife beating. We hope people don't (do it or post it). But with 6,000+ people a day every one has a different idea than you and me about what is OK and what is not.
