Old Cane July 16th, 2008, 03:58 PM So, I'm getting ready to order stuff for my Daphne blue build (light relic due to my painting skills) and I'm still undecided on what to get. Rosewood, early 60s type build.
Do I go with white or mint?
Now, the big one; do I get white, parchment, mint or aged (yellowed) plastic to match? I'm buying from specialy guitars or GPR, not aging my own stuff. I need pictures and descriptions guys.
I'm leaning toward mint and aged but I'd like to see it to know for sure.
Thanks.
Shadowrunner July 16th, 2008, 04:06 PM i'd say white and aged. i just think the mint would look weird
Ethical July 16th, 2008, 04:08 PM I think mint would be the best option. I've seen this combination and it's a killer IMHO.

I thought so for a long time. But there is so much variance in the mint and I'm just not sure how yellow the aged stuff is.

I'm just waiting to see some pictures.

BritishBluesBoy July 16th, 2008, 04:59 PM Dude..... Mint all the way.. It just has to be man. My all time favorite color scheme for a Strat... Ever since I saw 9 Below Zero play the Marquee Club in London in the early 80's...

Now I want one too!!!!! Did I hear someone say GAS...
furrfurrfurr July 16th, 2008, 05:00 PM all 3 great options
i'd try all three
Old Cane July 16th, 2008, 05:04 PM Ok, I lied. the options are white, aged, and parchment.

So what are the parts above? They look pretty white to me with that PG. I hate to mess with this stuff but maybe mint/white and soak the covers in coffee? I don't think I like the "aged" set all that well if this is a representative photo.
Daddydex July 16th, 2008, 05:04 PM I agree with Triple B. Mint looks great on Daphne blue.

Old Cane July 16th, 2008, 05:08 PM Right, but mint and what? Apparently I can't get mint covers and knobs and tips. Well, ok, the trem comes with a mint tip.
BritishBluesBoy July 16th, 2008, 05:10 PM Right, but mint and what? Apparently I can't get mint covers and knobs and tips. Well, ok, the trem comes with a mint tip.
Those two pics I posted look like aged cream pup covers and knobs... I don't think they make mint green ones...
Old Cane July 16th, 2008, 05:19 PM Ok, so you think that's mint w/ the aged white? That's kind of what i was thinking because i really like the look here. I'm just afraid theones i see are yellow/brown. Maybe not. I may need to go with furr and get white and aged to see.
Heading home. We'll revist in in the AM. Thanks guys, keep 'em coming.
rasomaso July 16th, 2008, 06:14 PM Be sure to check it out on daylight! Lightning is a huge factor...
Shadowrunner July 16th, 2008, 07:19 PM yes, lighting is pretty important. my guitar looks a whole lot different in the sunlight than indoors.
Old Cane July 17th, 2008, 09:53 AM Any more photos? Come on, guys, I know you got 'em. Did I say please?
rasomaso July 19th, 2008, 02:31 PM I'll be picking up Classic Player '60s strat this week, it should have a mint pickguard and aged knobs. I can upload some photos then if you want me to...
Old Cane July 19th, 2008, 06:23 PM That would be wonderful. I think I found a couple in the gallery although no details but it looks like a good combo.
rushcentrale July 19th, 2008, 11:17 PM these are bad pics for color, but my vote is for MINT!

buddastrat July 20th, 2008, 03:37 PM I love the look as long as it's not-so-mint mint. Not the glow in the dark new looking ones.

I take that back. In fact you can find mint green pickup covers and knobs, just not made by Fender. I just bought an MIM 60's Classic Stratocaster in Sonic Blue (FSR) and have been looking for mint green parts as it has all white on it right now. I was able to find pickup covers made by Lindy Fralin, knobs by Allparts, pickguard and trem cover by Fender and trem tip (as part of the whole bridge assembly) by Callaham. So a little homework has paid off...
Here's the guitar BTW... Will post more pics once I have switched out all the plastic, pickups and bridge...

Old Cane August 1st, 2008, 11:01 AM Ok, so I got a mint pickguard as a part out from reliablefender. I also got aged knobs. The mint is not very mint. It's the correct early 60s 11 hole pattern and just off white mint. It's says 60's strat (and loaded with '69 pickups) on the sticker on the plastic instead of saying '62 RI like I expected. When I removed the plastic it got a touch whiter. This is just perfect. I never have seen one that actually turned green. All the ones I've played over the years just turned so they didn't look new white. They did a good job on this one. Now I need to find some barely aged pickup covers.
Edit: I went back and looked at the auction. The title read for a 62 but the text said it's from a 60s Classic Player, in case anyone else likes just the mint tint.
alexpigment August 1st, 2008, 05:02 PM ok there should be no discussion here at all. mint with aged white parts
EDIT: I should have just read the post above. Cane: fender makes an all-in-one package that contains knobs, pup covers, trem cover, switch tip and even trem arm. I picked up one of these and it is the perfect shade of off white. plus all your stuff will match.
Old Cane August 4th, 2008, 09:25 AM Yeah but i got the knobs for 99 cents. I don't need a back plate. I have 30 year old tips from when i rpelaced them on my old strat. I just need pickups covers.
Here are shots in different lighting (meaning I blocked the light from the window a little).

alexpigment August 4th, 2008, 11:08 AM well i would just recommend not getting the allparts aged (creme?) pickup covers as they just look unnaturally yellowed. i would really recommend going with official fender aged white pup covers
Old Cane August 4th, 2008, 11:25 AM That's kind of what I figured on. Too bad that seller never has just covers for sale. Oh, well, for $6 I can get them about anywhere.
Hey I see you're down there in Austin. Maybe you know my buddy Lance Keltner. We played together from junior high through high school. He's a year or two younger than me. We met through dealing with one of our members here who later became my brother-in-law.
XKnight August 5th, 2008, 12:21 AM I like mint and aged.
Old Cane August 5th, 2008, 09:11 AM I haven't counted but it seems to be unanimous!
