Classic Vibe 50's Strat?

Anyone have any solid reviews on the Squier CV 50's Strat? there were some mentions in the big thread for the Tele, but I haven't seen much mention of the Strat. anyone own one? I'm assuming/hoping it's as good quality as the Tele and Duosonic, but I'd like to hear more before I pull the trigger.

heck, I may end up with the Tele and the old school P-bass from that series if the rest come as highly recommended as the Tele! now I just need them to make a Jazzmaster and an Electric XII, and I'll be all set!

I have one. Played it for about 30 seconds at the local mom'n'pop store, and that was it.

Glossy glossy finish; REALLY lightweight. The 50s only comes with a maple fretboard, and the guy at the store says the pickups are wound to be brighter than the 60s. It sure SOUNDS bright. The guy claimed they're alnico magnets, and they don't sound tinny, like some cheapies -- but noticeably brighter than most of my other Strats.

The neck was the big selling point for me (along with the weight). Excellent fretwork; just flawless.

It didn't need any setup, but the bridge was flush with the body, so I floated it. The guy at the store said they're all perfect, right out of the box (this guy makes a point of setting up any guitar before he puts it on his wall).

I have no point of comparison, since I haven't seen the Tele or Duo Sonic yet, and I didn't even play the 60s model hanging next to it (the maple neck was exactly what I wanted). It was just, "Yeah, it's really good."

I look forward to seeing the rest of the series; this little store expects the Teles in a couple of weeks, followed by the Duo Sonics. The basses look hot in the pictures!

Thanks for that review. I'm thinking about a 60's, myself. Basically for the rosewood. But its good to know that they're less bright than the 50's. I prefer a "warmer" Strat tone.

+1 on beep click's reply. The only thing I can't coment on is the pickups, I didn't plug in. As far as the 60's I didn't care for the tort guard with the 3 tone burst, for me its got to be green. Dave

There's a thread (http://www.strat-talk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=872) over at Strat-Talk.

If they came in different colors I would be all over them.

I already have a 2-color sunburst Jimmie Vaughan and a 3-color sunburst 62 Hot Rod so the first thing I would have to change on one of these would be the body

But, if someone parts these out on eBay I would snag a 60s neck to go on my old/unused Epi Strat Clone to get rid of that banana neck and make it more respectable

Just got mine yesterday from Elderly. Flawless, a perfect guitar. Great finish, centerjointed two piece. 6.4LB ! Best fretwork than I have seen on ANY Fender in years.

Cool are the pickups 60 cycle hum free? I have the 50's Classic Vibe Tele and its as quiet as my humbucker guitars zero hum. Its got the same excellent fretwork. Maybe they are pleked cause they are better than any Fender Ive owned too and I got my first Fender in 1972.

Hum is almost zilch in any position. Neck is beyond belief, better right out of the box than my friends pair of "Erics" (Johnson and Clapton). Someone is doing something right over there at Squier. Gonna pick up the Tele very soon.

I'm going to get the 60's and part out my CP60's as I just don't pick it up any more. Want the matching Tele and Strat set.

Just pulled the trigger on one of these from Musicians Friend. I used to have a 90's Squier II Strat that was really sweet , I hope this one lives up to my expectations. Should have it in hand by the end of the week.

That Squier actually looks nicer - much nicer in fact - than the Am Deluxe.

Really got into mine last night, played until 4am. Am totally in love with this guitar, best Strat I've ever played. Simply incredible value. Pickups are right on, fretwork is beyond belief, this guitar almost plays itself. Only issue is the dark pickup covers, they look a bit strange. Even the cheesy trem block seems ok. Best guitar FMIC has come up with in years, ordered the Tele from this series today.

Well, she arrived today and she's a beauty !!!!!
Its got some nice grain on the body and one of the nicest necks I've played. It's got a little meat to it, which I like and fills the hand just right.

The neck has some really nice silking in the wood grain on the edges especially at the headstock. The tuners are really nice as well.

Out of the box it was set up pretty good but I changed the strings to some 10's, tweaked the truss rod a bit then set the intonation and saddle height.
After that the only thing left to do was to block out the tremolo bar so I cut a small block out of some Mahogany that I had and took care of that.

Overall I'm really impressed with this Strat.
