hi folks. I have a '72 twin, and it has started getting farty on low frequencies up loud.

any suggestions on where to look first? power capacitors, or filter caps?
something else?

thanks in advance.

Sounds like the filter caps are crapping out. Your amp needs a cap job if it hasn't had one in the last 10 years. Regardless, it needs a checkup.

What you have your Bass setting to on your amp. I'm just curious.

with an SG, i was using 6 treble 5 mid 4 bass

i think cap job is in order then.

i guess i'll have to rip it open. i prefer to work on things myself. i can imagine that the caps for a twin reverb will be faiirly pricey.

thanks.

With those setting I'd definitely second the cap job. If it has original Fender-labeled Utahs in it I'd replace those as well (call Ted Weber and ask him for a recommendation based on what type of music you play) but not until the amp is serviced.

Yeah 4 isn't very bassy at all. So I too think it's a cap job.

Hi Gene, The Tube Store in Hamilton caries Sprague atoms, all 12 electrolytics,7 on the board and the 5 filters are about 75.00.

There's a great product for sale at the supermarket called
"Gas X."

Does it go away when you hit it on the side? Sometimes my amp gets fuzzy and noisy. When I hit a few times it goes away. One time I picked up a religious radio station with a preacher shouting really emphatically, and that was really weird. I know, I know, I need a cap job or whatever, but that costs money.
